Donovan's Story

Around 1986 I ran into some problems with my lifestyle and attitude and all but dropped off the face of the earth. I spent that time really involving myself with computers - a new direction for myself. I became pretty active in a pre-Internet local online community of dweebs, dorks, computer-geeks and, surprisingly enough, academics - who helped me patch up the lack of education that I had missed between Middle School and the end of High School. (They mostly helped me by mericlessly attacking my lack of ability to compose a decent sentence and otherwise berating my lack of formal education). These guys were mostly CSUS students and faculty who ran local Bulletin Board Systems called Citadels. I also met a guy from the Folsom area who became a lifelong friend during this period, so I spent a lot of the next few years out in that neck of the woods and lost track of the Land Park/Greenhaven crowd. At some point around 89 or 90 Eric Brookey and I met back up and he got me a job at Rico's Italian Pizza next to Nugget. I worked off and on there as driver, cook and assistant manager while I rebuilt my social contacts from the JFK area. That lasted until around early '91. I also began to party again, though nowhere near as destructively as I had been in High School and Middle School. I suppose I should mention that in '87 my Grandmother had passed away, leaving me an inheiretance and estate in the S. Land Park Hills area. For a 17-21 year old, I was pretty well financially set. My Nephew, Kelly Kiser moved in with us, and he was friends with Kevin Perry, Scott Perry, and an associated group of long time Land Park locals. I naturally grew to be part of this circle of frien...Expand for more
ds. Sometime in 1991, I picked up a job at a local computer retailer, The Byte Brokers. While continuing to party I worked my way up to Store Manager at this employer. From there I networked to a helpdesk job at MCI Internet. That led to work in San Francisco at a company that would eventually become part of EMC. I left that company to work at Intel as an I.T. systems integrator in 2003. Somewhere in that period, the Seinfeld Years, I met my wife, Angelina. Angelina worked her way through College and has a Masters from UCD Graduate School of Management. We also had a kid, my 7 year old daughter, who has hair the same color as mine was when I had any. We remodelled the house in Land Park in 2001 adding a complete second story, and in 2007 we sold it as the Sacramento Real Estate market began to crash and moved to North East Ohio (where the market had already crashed, which worked out well - at least, as well as moving from California to Ohio can). I'm currently working as an IT Manager for a healthcare company and my wife is Vice President for a different healthcare billing company. I'm enrolled as a life-long college student in Kent State and bring an Honors record with me from Sacramento City College, where I have been double majoring in History and Poly-Sci with a minor in Language (Spanish) for the past 10 years and probably will be studying for the next 10 years to complete my degrees. :) My long term goal is to either get invovled in State politics (and yes, I DID inhale, frequently - so I'm not sure how that is going to work out), or use the BS as pre-law and get into International Electronic Contract law for South American and European Internet sites.
