Doreen's Story

I hope all of my old friends will remember me fondly. I always wanted to be a teacher for the deaf when I grew up. No one really knew that I had that dream. As it turned out, life stuff kept me from achieving that goal, anyway. I was pretty much a loner and only hung out with a few people. I got pregnant in my junior year and was married, became a mother and divorced all before graduation. Things were a whole lot worse with my parents once they figured out I was pregnant. We ended up running away to his family in Cantonment, FL - I didn't think I had any other choice. It was a very abusive relationship, the baby was born two weeks early and I left him when she was 6 days old. The wildest thing I ever did in school was skipping one day with some friends - one of them was so drunk and ended up puking all over McDonald's parking lot. I was so afraid my parents were going to find out that I don't think I ever skipped again. I moved back to Vermont (where we originally came from) in 1982, remarried, then moved back to Orange City and divorced in 1989. It was good to live away from home and on my own for those 7½ years. I did a lot of growing up and discovering who I was and what I wanted out of life. The two people from my past who I'd most like to see again is Regina (Falcon) McGhee and Nanette Purchase, because its been way too long since I've seen either of them or that we've spent any time together. They are my oldest and dearest friends. I think Regina and I clicked because both of our parents were very strict and it was fun to be friends with such a nice person. Nanette and I hit it off as well when we really got to know each other in church. My very first crush was with Scott Ours. I'm not sure where he is now. It was so long ago and we've lost contact. My first job was at Ciro's Pizza here in Orange City, where I got paid a tiny stipend to make pizza and subs. One of my old bosses Ciro Farrentino has since passed away - he was an awesome man. The weirdest job I ever had was as a telemarketer for the Rich Plan Food Company in Sanford. I never did handle rejection very well and...Expand for more
telemarketers face a LOT of rejection. I am unable to work anymore due to severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia that is still not under control. My husband is self-employed. I took part in a clinical study for a new RA medication, but dropped out due to the side effects. I hope to be starting a new medication soon (May 2009), so my day-to-day stuff is always different and iffy at best depending on the weather. I share my home with my husband of 17 years, our youngest daughter, our three cats (Callie, Uma, Molly) and an Ornate Box Turtle named Squirt. I don't know if I have any specific obsessions other than my family, who mean the world to me. I'm happy with our home (we've been here since 1994). I'd love to remodel the kitchen, but for now I'd be content to knock out a couple of closets and make the living room bigger. (We did this in 2008 and it is awesome!!) My dream home would be one that came with a maid. I have two daughters and three step children. I have 3 grandsons from my oldest daughter and 1 grandson and 3 granddaughters from my step children. Our youngest daughter started high school this year (2008) - Lord help me! The biggest thing I've learned from my two girls is that they are my life and are way more important than anything else. If I had one do-over in my life, it would be to meet my present husband first and all 5 of our children would be ours together rather than just the one. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to all of our kids so they would not have to struggle with housing expenses, then spend the rest on reducing my living expenses, getting proper treatment for my RA & FMS and invest the rest to secure my financial future. To be truly happy, I would live in a neutral barometric pressure area, living a pain free life with my family. My current age is 47. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be really old. I was so completely wrong. In 10 years, I hope to have this RA & FMS totally under control and still be alive. I'm going to get there by prayer, prayer and more prayer. I look forward to seeing everyone at our 30 year reunion.
