Dorene's Story
Life
An accomplishment well worth waiting for.
After all these years (35)!, I've finally completed what I had set out to do after graduating from HS. I finally went back to college and obtained my nursing credentials. It was alot of hard work and also alot of fun.
It was such an intimidating feeling being the "oldest" student in the classroom, but soon I was the one who the "kids" looked at to be the first one to do new assignments. I guess they figured if I could do it, then by golly they could also.
It was daunting sometimes knowing that others were looking to me to be the person of strength and maturity that they did not get in their family environmnet, encouraging them to keep on going when it got difficult. It was truly a blessing to see a young fellow student start maturing into a great nurse with wonderful potential to believe in themselves, and to know that I had an influence in the...Expand for more
ir lives. In return, they taught me to laugh and enjoy student life again. We all stuck it out together. I earned the title "MaMa Dorene" and wore it proudly.
When the big day came in March 07, my face beamed with pride not just for myself but for all my "kids" when they walked up the stairs to receive their diploma for their hard work.
I learned that at any age, we can make a difference and we can do anything we set our mind to and our hearts upon. Don't let anyone tell you that your to old to accomplish new things. It's a privilege each and every day to wake up and know that you have a new chance to accomplish rewarding tasks. Make it worth it. Do something good for yourself and others. Be a person of integerity and character. Touch someone else with laughter, love, caring and give them a part of you. After all, there's only one of you! Do something fun. Learn something new, GO FOR IT!
