Dori's Story
Life
Life is great as long as you keep breathing! My life is a daily adventure, full of love, faith, challenges, and choices. I enjoy being a Psychologist and Teacher, but not as much as being a Grandma. Been married for 31 years, still live in Riverside, the community I grew up in, ride horses and Harley's, have great friends and neighbors, am working on a Doctorate, writing a few books, and have no regrets. A good sense of humor gets me through the toughest of times, and the love of the Lord, my family, and friends, keeps me grounded. I'm still moving forward, still learning, still loving life, and I'm still breathing!
School
School was an adventure in culture shock. Times were crazy and "groovy". I enjoyed singing in a rock band, and "going steady" wearing High School rings wrapped in Angora to match my outfits. I loved my friends, loved to party, hated Coach Porter, loved Mr. Clock and Frau Brayer, enjoyed drama, swimming, tennis, and running track, and loved racing my 57 Chrysler with the 392 Hemi down the back lot driveway before they put in speed bumps...Expand for more
! Does anyone remember the Hi Ho Club, Purple Haze, Roof Top Dances, or the Mystic Eye? How about TP'ing Poly HS?
Or maybe the "Tree parties" in Whitegates? Spring breaks at Tahquitz or the beach? Come on...fess up! After all, that was then...this is now, and thank God we made it here!
We can finally be off of restriction!
College
Graduating from Cal Baptist proved to me that "old dogs can certainly learn new tricks!" You're never too old to get that degree, and it's easier when you're "more mature". I got mine for my 50th birthday. I love my experience at CBU, and love my profession. I was meant to be a "counselor". Loved my teachers, advisors, and staff, too!
I kept plugging away at RCC for about 25 years, taking class after class, until I finally ended up with so many units that I actually got an AA and and AS, a couple of certificates of completion, and a lot of old, used textbooks!
I went to UCR Extension to become a Certified Addictions Counselor, and to get Certificates in Counseling Skills, Behavioral Sciences, Domestic Violence, and Anger Management.
