Dorothy's Story

After graduating in 1953, I moved to a small city south of Chicago, went to LaSalle/Peru IL Community college and worked as the administrative assistant to the Chief Engineer of Seth Thomas Clock Co. From there, I moved around the IL area, working for the Dept. of Education in Springfield, IL and then The Kentucy Co., a brokerage firm in Louisville, Ky. Moved back to St. Louis in 1961 and started working for AT&T Government Communications at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Il. Transferred to Wash. DC in 1967 - got married in 1968 and left AT&T for six years to become a mother. Went back to AT&T 1975 when daughter started school, bridged my employment time and while there held several jobs, National Accounting Manager for Government billing, Accounting Manager for National Emergency and Security Services awarded to AT&T upon divesture in 1983 - 1986. Was given the job as Proposal Manager - developing bids against our competitors in the IT and communications markets for Federal contracts on Government Services and in that year I lost the love of my life to cancer. From the proposal job, I was promoted to Senior Project Manager which entailed implementing the contracts awarded to AT&T on Government services. Picked up studies at George Washington University for a Masters in Project Management. Retired in early 1990 from AT&T and then went on to start a job in a small communications company as their Marketing Vice President handling the provision of technical consultants under contract to communications com...Expand for more
panies, AT&T, Lucent, SAIC, Verizon. In the meantime, I remarried, to a Military Officer. I also lost that husband to a heart attack in 2003. I had finally quit working in 2001. Have since traveled throughout the world, Far East, China, India, Greek Islands (2 times), Russia (2 times), Germany, Italy, Cruised thru the Panama Canal, the Red Sea, the Baltic Sea, 1,000 miles down the Amazon in Brazil and climbed to the top of Diamond Head in Hawaii. My most recent trip, Oct. 2013 was a cruise on the Queen Mary touring New England, Canada, and down the St. Lawrence Seaway to Quebec. My daughter married a Network Manager with Microsoft in 2003 in Seattle, WA and I had moved to Greenville, SC for retirement. We made an agreement that if she, her husband and their two children moved back east, I would sell my house in Greenville and move to their location which was Raleigh, NC. A wonderful city with a lot of good Bridge players and I am enjoying being near my grandchildren who are 6 and 9. I Love life and have battled a round of cancer in 2007 and thank God every day I'm in remission. I belong to a health club and get in to exercise (with the old people) three times a week. Anyone coming thru Raleigh, give me a call as I'm in the directory as last name of Lennox. Would like to see more about the people on Classmates and what you're doing with your life. PS: To give you an up on who I am, I had bright red hair in high school and even tho I cheat a lot, it is still a little red??? Enjoy life and keep smiling!
