Dorothy's Story
My Little Insanities- Life with 9, make that 10, children. :)
After 2 years at BCC, I joined the army. I went to the defense language institute (San Francisco Branch), was trained as a Korean linguist and spent the rest of my 4 years at Fort Ord, Ca. I rarely used my language skills except during language training maintenance drills. I met my husband Richard while attending classes at BCC. We've been married for almost 25 years and have 10 children, 5 of each. Our youngest was born in April 2009 5+ weeks early. This is the first time I've had a near normal sized newborn, as my other kids were born on time and ranged between 8 1/2 and 11 1/2 pounds. :) Someday I will be done with my bachelors degree. It takes a long time when you take 2 classes every few years ;) Compared to being a mom, the army was a piece of cake. Rich has worked for the same company as a contractor at the Pentagon for the last 17+ears. I work at the Pentagon at a computer help desk, answering phones and talking user through troubleshooting for common pc/software problems. I never knew my Army clearance would help me get a job 17 yrs after I got out.

e time we are renovating our 100 year old farm house located about 75 miles west of Washington, DC. Some repairs were anticipated when we bought the house. Others, like the 2nd floor bathroom the boys flooded trying to flush duplo blocks, became necessary repairs. Plaster doesn't hold up well to water flowing through it. :) I have learned all I never wanted to learn about drywall, plumbing and wiring, to say nothing of the appliances which I repair if at all possible. Houses this size in Northern VA / the DC metro area with miniscule yards go for $400,000. We have 1/4 acre and are within 5 miles of the northern entrance of Shenandoah National park, where we can be found on nice weekends hiking or just having a picnic. Unfortunately our large brainless mutt gets car sick so he stays home with the cat while we are gone.
