Dot's Story
I attended Rutland High School from 1966-68, my junior and senior years, and Beloit College was my next school. My family had moved in 1966 from the Pacific Northwest to be closer to my maternal grandparents in Massachusetts. I am the second of 8 children, and my older sister Martha also graduated from Rutland HS, in 1967. After graduation I went to Wisconsin for college at Beloit (where my Dad's father had gone). I was a Spanish major, continuing an interest I developed in my teens, when I had traveled to South America in the summer of 1967 to live with a family in Bogota. After college I taught for a few years, then left teaching to become a radiation safety technician in the nuclear power field (just a little change... !?) Chance is an in...Expand for more
teresting thing, and I had been between teaching jobs in 1976 and got a Manpower job at the local nuclear power plant (Peach Bottom, Pennsylvania). Later on that became my career when I was a single mother. It paid well, and I enjoyed the technical aspects of the job. I worked most of my career at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant in New Hampshire, and retired from there in 2004 (just old enough to get the early-retirement buyout by 3 days, gracias a Dios!) My husband Jonathan passed away in 2011 and in 2016 I married Peter Mason, a retired social worker. I live to garden, and we enjoy hosting Chinese high school students in our home. Peter is a sailor, so I am becoming a lover of the sea also. I expect to be at my 50th reunion in 2018!
