Doug's Story

Life I graduated from ESHS in the great class of 1962. Then attended Loyola U as an English major, and graduated with a B.A. in English in 1966. After graduation, I took a job teaching English at St. Louis High School in Hawaii. Stayed there for three years, also coaching Freshman baskeball and running the intramural sports program. Married Kathy Malcombe in Dec of 1966. Returning to the mainland, after a year teaching 5th grade at St Catherine of Siena School in Reseda and a brief stint at Montgomery Ward, I went to work for State Farm Insurance in Westlake Village. I retired from State Farm as a Senior Commercial Accts Underwriter in 2004, after 33 years. I have two sons, Bill (36) and Scott (34), and two wonderful grandsons, with a granddaughter on the way. I was divorced in 1988, and married Amy Atkinson in 2004. My stepdaughter Danyelle is a freshman at San Diego State. We live in Oak Park, CA (near Thousand Oaks). otorcycles, snow ski, and play paddle tennis twioe a week at El Segundo Rec Park with old classmates Rich Arabian, Bob Hanley, Tim Chrisman, Roger Yeaton and sometimes Jay Osterberg. I fondly look back upon my high school years--and working after school at Roy D. Zilk's nursery and at the Superior Drive-In Dairy Store on Main St. Fun times! I look forward to hearing from any old classmates!! College Loyola University (Now Loyola Marymount) Class of 1966. English major, minors in History and Philosophy. B.A. in English. President of the English Society in Senior year. Both my sons also graduated from LMU. Workplace St. Louis High School--English teacher--1966-1969 St. Catherine of Siena School--teacher--1969-1970 Montgomery Ward--Dept Manager--1970-1971 State Farm Insurance--Sr Comm Accts Underwriter--1971-2004 (now retired). Military No military service. Had a deferment due to teaching, and then had a high draft lottery number. Lucky!!
