Doug's Story

After CHS, I got a a BS in mechanical engineering at Old Dominion Univ. in Norfolk, Va. Then a MS in Aerospace engineering from N.C. State. After the first two years of hugging my books and sliderule (unlike CHS), my father urged me to go out; I joined a frat, and lost some of the 'nerdiness' that could have sidelined me forever! I worked for 12 years in in the Aerospace Industry at Lockheed Martin in Orlando, but, then got the Marketing bug, and changed careers to Financial Planning for the next 34 years. My first marriage of 2 yrs. ('70 - '72) gave us a beautiful daughter, Blake (now 45), who lives in Waco, TX. In 1984, I left Orlando for the Quad Cities (Davenport & Bettendorf, Iowa) for 6 weeks to help start a Brokerage firm, and wound up staying there for 31 years. In 1990, I rekindled an old relationship from Orlando, and got married to Stephanie in 1992. We enjoy traveling to VA. & FL. to see family members, and especially love visiting Coronado for fun & a few reunions. After many years of big city life, we now enjoy the relaxed pace of no traffic, and lots of activities on the Mississippi river. And Chicago (Bears) is just two hours away; St. Louis (Rams) -- four hours; and Green...Expand for more
Bay (Packers) -- 5 hours. Memories of life in Coronado have always seemed like a 'fantasy' to me. I think we were probably the luckiest kids alive back then; I wouldn't trade those 4 years for anything. I really enjoy swapping stories with classmates. Send me an e-mail if you want to share stories and let me know how you remember our years at CHS. (Piocap at aol dot com) After 50 years, I'd like to say Thank You to some of the people who made those years much more enjoyable: Pete Davis (my best friend), Mike Turner, Geoff Beaver, the "Crew", Twyla King (who showed up at ODU in Norfolk), Candy Aegeter, Virgil Berndt, Frank Goodale, 'Tiff', K.A., Marilyn Snowden, Ricky Bradly, Bob Dobransky, Jim Reed, Bill Coman, Dave Schmidt, Buddy Heely, Rosemary Lamberton, Dave Henner, Fritter, Rich Vernetti (R.I.P.), Mike Vaughn, Sandy Murphy, Willie Wier, Larry Becht, Mike & Pat Patton, Harry Reid, and others. We may not have known each other well, but I certainly enjoyed you! And, of course, Tim O'Toole!! Some of the best memories: Dances after the games, Parties on the Strand & Fun on Coronado Beach. (Remember the Long Bar in TJ?). Here's wishing all of you the very best in the years ahead! Doug

Took Limon out for a "Chuys" Mexican dinner in Orlando. He had the Tri-Enchilada plate (The "Elvis Combo") and his favorite drink (Bud Light). Meemaw Stephanie had fun with Limon too!
This proves you're never too old to learn new tricks: Steph and David M. taught me how to give the Facebook "Like" symbol !! (Click "like" if you agree)
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY, DAD! We all love you and miss you very much.
How's this for a Surprise? One of my classmates from Coronado H.S. (class of '64 in Coronado, CA.) recently took this picture (of a poster) shown at the 100th anniversary of the Coronado School System. On the right side
Took Steph and Limon out to Chuy's Mexican
Fiesta in Orlando. Limon had the "Elvis Combo Platter" w/ his favorite beverage 'Bud Light'. (Beer always bloats him, as you can see)
