Doug's Story

After graduation I attended Auburn University and worked at NASA in Huntsville, AL on the co-operative education program. I graduated in 1969 with a degree in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn. I worked in Huntsville for NASA after graduating, served in the Army at Ft. Bliss, TX, married my wife Manette, a schoolteacher in 1973, and was in the Army Reserve retiring as a Major in 1984. In my time in the Army, I was assigned to a lot of different types of units, including Air Defense, Special Forces, Chemical Corps, and Aviation, as well as being an instructor in Army Reserve Schools, and working at Army Labs and DoD Agencies. worked in Huntsville for 45+ years supporting the Space Program and the Department of Defense as a NASA propulsion engineer and a Missile Defense Agency expert in propulsion. I also worked with several aerospace companies, retiring from the Missile Defense Agency in 2012. My wife retired from teaching in 2007, after teaching for 25 years. I continued working as a consultant in Huntsville for aerospace companies after retiring, until we moved to Fairhope, AL in 2015 where I taught Engineering courses at the University of South Alabama in Mobile. We moved to Melbourne, FL in early 2021, where we both are fully retired. My wife and I have 2 sons, Drew, a strength & fitness trainer for the Army at Ft. Bragg, NC and Ryan a Navy Commander at Port Canaveral, FL, and 5 grandchildren.
