Doug's Story

May 2015 Just returned from Alaska to oversee my crew mobilize two vessels and go explore the cook inlet. I ended up falling back on my Navy training and now I own a Seismic Company. Life had fun with my career choice that's for sure. Nothing I planned for really worked out, however; i did make a few smart choices and I am doing pretty well now. I live in Texas. I don't think I really need to say more, but it has been very good to my family so I really can't complain either. It does get Tarzan kind of hot here, but that's when I go somewhere else. I am going to leave all my old note because I like seeing where I was and how I thought. I hope you are all doing well. Life May 2006 ran into snag with the training system and just got it released back to me from the large mortgage company who tried to steal it and make it theirs. They beat me up pretty good and took a lot of my goodwill toward men from me. I of course quit and took some key people with me and started a new company. I hear the large mortgage company is doing badly now (poetic justice) My Company is doing OK but still small. Bought a little 6 acre ranch on Bethel Island and trying to make it livable. With all the trouble that money brought me, I think I would rather just be a farmer or something less high profile. Unfortunately not my lot in life and I am forced to continue down this path. My life sounds much better on paper than I feel it is. Maybe it is just mid life crisis. Kids are doing very well. One of my kids is now a teenager OMG I was like this too? I am going to write my mom an apology letter right now!! 2 years ago I wrote this. I became a paper multi millionaire via dot com and lost it all via dot com (2000 lol) Just recovered from loosing it all. Now I am V.P. of large mortgage company. Published twice! Creating new training system for Loan Officers will be ready for marketing by 2005. Have three kids and been married for 13 years. Children ages are 11,10, and 8 as of sep 2004.. Found that most of my friends were there because of my money and position. When money went bye bye so did they. Even now as I climb back up the ladder I still wonder about some of them. People attach themselves to me because I am driven. I have about 15 uninvited inventions some are very cool. Right now I am taking a break while I render some green screen effects for the DVD training set due to come out later this year or beginning of 2005. Traveled a lot! Did my 6 years in military as sonar tech on subs that’s where I got my tech training to do everything I do now. School All through high school I was dating Laura lea Collins who I thought I would marry. Life had something else for me though. I don't believe I even graduated from PGHS since my last few months of high school I turned into a bad boy and was sent to Community high school. Weird I went from the president of FBLA to Drop out in less than a year. Did go to college and did get diploma but it took me several years of traveling the world before I could focus again. College I went to three years of college and got the credits to get a degree however I didn't apply that degree toward anything. Instead I use...Expand for more
d them to get a good position in the Military. Workplace Change is always happening. Left the large mortgage company in august 2005 because owner tried to steal the training system and market it as his. Opened my own mortgage company. I have about 15 employees and the stress like it was 1000. Back in Monterey right now (may 2006) Finishing the filming of the training system now with Morsystems (a mortgage software company). What a small world it is, after I signed the contract I learned that the company was owned by the father of two fellow PGHS students I went to school with. Rich and Cheryl Whitworth. I am working with them now. Military Top secret classification. Became a sonar technician aboard nuclear submarines. Went on many tours to protect the world from enemies I would never see (sonar tech’s, we see with sound get it? lol) Joined the Navy to become more of a man and confront my problems, however since I was on a boat that carried the big missiles every time a problem came up (enemy ships and such) we turned away a ran since our mission was deterrent patrol. What that means to everyone else is; We hide with enough firepower to destroy any enemy that would attack the US. If we surfaced and could not contact anyone (because the enemy killed you all) we would retaliate by wiping them out. Something to think about. The boat I was on would never tell any of the crew if it was a drill or not. Not like the movies were they announce “this is just a drill” The captain had to be sure we would push the button if it came down to it. Fake messages that informed the crew we were at war was common place, then a spin up of all missiles and push the buttons to destroy the would be attackers. I personally helped destroy the world over 50 times always hoping but never sure if it was just a drill. Quite a mind trip I tell you. They do this so if it really happens we would carry out our mission. If you hesitated or did not carry out your mission you were off the boat. Sometimes we would fire an air slug though the torpedo tube so the whole boat would shake like a missile being fired just to see if we would continue our jobs once we “knew” it was the real thing. So terrible is this threat that any would be attacker would be crazy to attack us because we would have the final strike, making it a no win even if they have the upper hand and caught us of guard. I joined in 88 went to school for another 2 years of high tech training and was honorably discharged in 94. 6 years of service that changes the way you think. 18 months on the submarine. Two separate crews switched off on a boat that was always out to sea. My first patrol was 128 days under the water. They have since made it illegal to go longer than 90 days. It was a highly stressful job but I always had half the year off. The other crew had the same deal. Plenty of stories that I can never put into writing. I may have gone to far already. It has been 12 years and the boat is decommissioned now so what are they going to do Draft me? A main problem with this deterrent patrol is what if the enemies are crazy? what if their motto is kill everyone and let God sort them out.
