Douglas's Story
Life
Hello classmates of the class of '67. After HS, I attended some college, but opted out for the physical work of becoming a commercial electrician. Somewhere in that time I became interested in computers and after 13 years of being an electrician, I switched careers.
I have been working in Info Technology as a programmer/analyst since 1983.
I have four kids and eight grandchildren (will be 9 in May, 2014). The kids are spread out all over the place (Platte City and Lebanon, Missouri, NC and FL).
I live in Overland Park with my current wonderful wife. Hobbies include woodworking, photography and the great outdoors (camping, hiking, canoe trips, etc.) I enjoy the theater (Starlight, Theater League) and concerts.
Workplace
A summer installing chain-link fence (rough).
A Fall selling electronics equipment at an RCA consumer store.
A year flipping burgers at Micky-Ds.

eral months repairing teletype equipment for WU.
A year working maintenance at American Can Company.
Eight years as a union commercial construction electrician.
Five years as a maintenance electrician for GM.
Finally, a transition into working with computers with TWA in 1983 while also working a part-time business from home selling software and computer parts for the Radio Shack TRS-80 computer.
And now I am a full-blown software developer/computer programmer/software engineer/database developer/ or whatever they decide to call it this week.
I write programs. Mostly applications. Like programs HR, AR, AP and Payroll use to store and report transactions. A PC in front of them and some kind of database, often miles away that stores the data, and I connect the two. Most of the time it is very fun and challenging and I enjoy it.
On November 12, 2016, I became a great-grandpa!!!
