Douglas's Story
Life
Douglas C. Hettler was born in San Antonio, Texas. He received his Bachelor of Science Degrees (Cum Laude) in Human Resource / Social Science from Upper Iowa University, Fort Riley, KS in June 1994. He received his Masters Public Administration degree from The Evergreen State College, Olympia, Washington in June 2000.
 Doug completed the Aviation Warrant Officer Basic Course at Ft Rucker, AL and was commissioned a Warrant officer in December 1971. In 1972  1973 he completed the Aircraft Maintenance Officer Technician Course, Ft Eustis, VA and OH-58 AQC Ft Rucker, AL, prior to serving with 3 BDE, 2 ID AVN Section as the Maintenance Officer, Camp Howe, Korea. From 1973  1976 in his USAREUR assignment he served as Maintenance Officer with 32d ADCOM, Sembach AFB, 10th ADA GP, Darmstadt and the 24th Engineer GP, Mannheim, Germany. Assigned to B Troop 3/5 CAV, 9th ID, Ft Lewis, WA from 1976-1978 as the Quality Control officer for 30 aircraft. His next assignment after a 10 year break in service began with 5th-158th AVN Regiment, Frankfurt, Germany 1988-1992, serving as the maintenance officer for B and E Company 5th-158th . He was selected as the maintenance officer for B Company 5th-158th as it deployed to Desert Shield/ Desert Storm 1990 to 1991. ID, Ft Riley, KS as the C CO.,4-1 XO and Production Control officer until 1995. He was assigned to HHC CMTC from 1995 to 1998 as the Chief of Aviation Maintenance (AMFAC). Doug was assigned to HHC USAG Ft Lewis, WA in July 1998 to May 2001 as the Budget/Logistics Officer for Gray Army Airfield, Special Project Officer for DPW conducting a cost benefit analysis on the Fort Lewis Solid Waste and Recycling program and as the S-1/Adjutant for HHC USAG. In June 2001, he was assigned to CMTC Operations Group Hohenfels, Germany as Chief of Aviation Maintenance. As the Aviation Maintenance Officer the JMRC Aviation Detachment received four Satisfactory ratings in 11 Functional Areas during the AORSE and ARMS evaluations from FY02-FY06. Wrote the successful unit application submission for the FY03 Chief of Staff of the Army Award for Maintenance Excellence (AAME). Unit won the AAME at the USAREUR level and DA level as TDA Small Category and was the first unit in the history of AAME to win on first time submission. Douglas reitred after 28 years in October 2008 and is currently serving as the I Corps Aviation Maintenance Officer at FT. Lewis, WA.
Douglas is married to the former Lisa A. Rickard of Tacoma, WA and their daughter Natasha V. Hettler and reside in Olympia, WA..
