Douglas's Story

Life Hi to anyone who visits my profile, I finally became married at age 42 on 09/11/99. Yes I know the significance of that month and day, and the irony of it is that my drivers license ends in 911, and my home address during my years at Denby began with 119!! My wife's name is Patricia, and she grew up in Hamtramck. We are both tall, she: 5' 10" and me: 6' 5", and look 10 years younger than we are. We do not have any children (yet) and it was a first marriage for both of us. We live in a ranch style house in Troy, and have three cats: Lenny, who is a big black tomcat, Tasha, a stubtailed tortoiseshell female, and Slyvester, a tuxedo (black with white markings) male cat that is half the size of Lenny. I have not had any contact with classmates from Denby in at least 20 years. Time has clouded my memory of many names, although when I search on the classmates site, there are some that look familiar. I am much better with faces. I "dated" a few girls at school, but most were brief, or very brief relationships. I was too wild and uncontrollable during that time, and most girls sensed that I was not going to be a steady boyfriend. Some of the most vivid memories that I have during my years at Denby were playing "hooky" LOTS of the time by hanging out at the Sweet Shop across the street (Kelly Rd.), being arrested by the police on the front lawn of school (along with a bunch of other teens) and being shoved in a paddywagon to go to t...Expand for more
he Conner Police Station. Luckily for me, I showed my class schedule to them, and since I was through with classes when arrested, they released me, and also, the day that another classmate (name??) and I helped organize the infamous walkout and march to the City-County Building in downtown Detroit in June 1974!! We drove to as many high schools as we could find, Osborn, Kettering, Pershing, ect... to call them out to join us. We were successful beyond our wildest dreams, and there was a huge amount of HSers that marched downtown to protest the extension of the school year to early July. It was in the newspapers, and on local TV and radio. We were interviewed by a radio station as well. When the videotape of the march was aired on the TV news that evening, I spotted a girl that I had met at Belle Isle a few days earlier, she was sitting on a streetcurb rubbing her aching feet, as many girls were likely not wearing shoes that were meant for long walks that day. I still have all of my hair, am not balding and have very little gray, which is not bad since I am pushing 50. I also have grown it long again, since 1996. I will eventually get it cut short, but when, I don't know. I'm not in a big hurry to do it. The only things that make me feel old is that my face has gotten wider, my waist has gone from a slim 32 to a husky 36, I have more aches and pains, and now need prescription drugs instead of the "illegal" ones of my youth.
