Douglas's Story
Began my work life as a Physical Therapist in Erie, PA. Lived there for about nine years, then west to Carlsbad, New Mexico. Interested in a change of climate and culture and certainly found both! Then on to Tucson, AZ for the next ten years, looking for and finding improved professional opportunities as well as improved education for the kids. With the kids off to university, we felt able to answer recruiting calls and found a good situation for both my wife Linda and me in the Bay Area of California. Spent about fifteen years living in Pleasanton, while commuting to Berkeley (very interesting place, BTW!). We both retired in 2013, moving to Parker, CO, where our son and family live, and "snow birding" in Tucson, where our daughter and family live. Made the permanent move to Tucson in 2020, as we found the biannual moves less fun than when we started, although we do go to Colorado a couple times a year for visits. It's been ...Expand for more
interesting living in a variety of locales, even though we never planned on our tortuous path around the country back in the day. Maybe now, we'll stay put!
Enjoying retirement in Academy Village in Tucson (google it and the Arizona Senior Academy) and I actually re-started my participation in Track and Field a few years ago. Able to do a few Masters/Seniors meets each year. (Shot put, discus and hammer throw). My wife thinks I'm nuts (as do some others), and the grandkids don't get what's fun about it. I, of course, find throwing heavy objects enjoyable! Oh, well!
Other than that, have done a little traveling, not so much for the past couple of years due to travel restrictions and what seems to be a never-ending issue with mutating viruses. So, I just get to hang out here in Academy Village where there's rarely snow and cold, just oppressive (at times) heat and the threat of severe thunderstorms during the monsoon season.
