Douglas's Story
After attening Mt. SAC, U.C.L.A., E.L.A.C.,U.C.L.A. Ext., Valley College and Cal-State,L.A., now called the University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in Sociology and Economics, moved to Oregon where I began a career with the Oregon Youth Authority before it was called that.
Upon retiring in 2004, met my wife Cheryl who used to go to a church where my siblings went in their teen years called Glengrove. I was best man for a brother-in-law of hers who went to West Covina High School. She attended Covina High School.
At MacLaren School, I worked in every building at some capacity from the night person position to Manager, and Counselor, then Group Life Coordinator. I also worked at a half way house in Portland for a while and worked at Hillcrest School for girls in Salem, Or...Expand for more
egon. I have planned on writing a book about the institutional experiences when I get a block of time to reflect on 32 years in the field. I still have dreams about youth and staff and experiences to this day.
Moved back to California to be nearer to Cheryl's mother and sisters in 2007; some work in security and working with elderly keep me busy enough to feel useful. I am curious about all of West Covina's alumni and people I have met through the years, including colleges, jobs, and every contact.
Dad turned 92 last week, mom is 89 and both showing signs of slowing down with weakness, but sound great.
Planning on going hunting for elk next month in Oregon to be with sons and grandchildren on the hunt which has a combination of thrills and danger all wrapped up into a hunting trip.
