Douglas's Story

I'd better write this material down now before all the neurons turn to oatmeal. The quick summary is: After Woodson, I attended Case Institute of Technology (now Case Western Reserve University) from 1966-1977, and then Graduate School at Purdue University from 1970-1974 - eventually ending up with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with an interest in Signal Processing. I had been the proud recipient of a draft number of '7' back in the lottery, so served in the Army as a lowly Signal Corps 2LT and 1LT from 1974-1977, and almost made it to CPT before returning to real life. I met my wife, Karen, at Purdue and got married in 1974, and am happy to report that she is still putting up with me after all these years - a very patient lady... From 1977-1983, I worked at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf in Rochester, NY where I developed novel electronic...Expand for more
tools to assist in teaching language to the deaf and hearing impared, and eventually became a Dept Chairman (they had low standards). My father's parents died in 1983 and Karen informed me that she was moving to their house in Westminster, MA that she had fallen in love with many years earlier. It would be considered a "plus" if I could come too. We still live in the same 250 year-old house today. After coming to Massachusetts, I started working more in Communication Signal Processing, and worked in the intelligence community until I retired in 2000. Since then, I still dabble in part-time work (about 10 hrs/wk) to keep the brain cells firing, and spend the remainder of my time cramming 26 hours of activity into each day. We have two boys, now 25 and 27, one of whom has graduated in Environmental Science, and the other is STILL attending college in Robotics.
