Douglas's Story

At Sheldon, I was one of those people who liked my classes, not least because I think we had extraordinarily good teachers in AP classes. I started out at college with a year and a half of credit, and was free to take classes in the sciences, in Asian history, and in the arts. I just had adjunct jobs--and meanwhile, had married my lovely wife, and was less eager to move around the world to find a tenure job. One of my students in a writing secion I was teaching told me (after I'd forced him to come in for office hours to go over his writing) that he didn't really need to write: He would get his degree in chemistry and create interesting new compounds, and his company would hire someone to write for him. I thought about that from time to time, and it sounded like really good career advice to me. So now I am a technical writer and information developer.
