Douglas's Story

Life Since graduation from Le Grand High in 1961 I served in the U.S. Navy for 27 years. While stationed in the Philippines I met and married my wife of 51 years, Lory. We have four children and 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way.. Since retiring from the navy in 1990 I have held several different careers including 3 years with the postal service, 4 years in the mini storage industry and insurance sales and tax preparation. I opened 3 test only smog shops in 2003 to 2007. Currently I sell books online and work seasonally for Hrblock. We have been blessed with great children and grandchildren. Lory and I are both very conservative, attend church and bible studies regularly and like to travel, especially to casinos. I would love to hear from any ex schoolmates and shipmates in the navy. Military I entered the navy after a year of attending college in jan of 1963. After boot camp and radioman a school, I served on board the USS Mt Mckinley AGC-7 for three years, making two westpac cruises and participating in multiple amphibious landings in Vietnam. I seperated from the navy in Jan of 1967 and attended college for another year before coming back into the navy in jan of 1968 as a radioman second class. en assigned to a one year tour of duty on the USS Satry ARL-23 in country Viet Nam. Then back to the Philippines for another three year tour of duty at NTCC Subic. In 1974 I finally returned to the US for 3 years stationed at NAVCOMMSTA STOCKTON. My next two tours were onboard the USNS Lipan (great duty) and the USS Pyro. Then back to shore dury at NTCC Oakland. My next sea duty was aboard the USS Hector where i made chief. After a two year tour of duty I again was stationed at Navcommsta Stockton where I made Senior Chief and served as the command 3m Coordinator. My last tour of duty was on board the USS New Orleans LPH-11. While on the New Orleans I was volunteered to make a westpac on board the Uss Crommelin. Quite an adventure with a fairly new radio gang but we we came through it with flying colors. I finally retired in jan of 1991 with 27 years service. I thoroughly enjoyed my military service and met lots of outstanding men and women in uniform and out. But I must admit the last 15 years of my life have been outstanding, seeing my children marry, have children and successful careers. Lory and I have 13 as of Mar 2006 and two more on the way. Lory and I can visit them when we want, and get away when we want. What freedom. I am looking forward to full retirement in 2009. God bless all
