Douglas's Story

Professional Life I have been a professional aviator for the past 28 years however, I had originally came to Alaska to work in the Prudhoe Bay oilfields. Working in the oilfield provided me with a means to pursue my life long interest in aviation. I eventually learned to fly and I side stepped into my current profession. My flying career started in rural Alaska and later progessed to the airlines. By 1991 I was flying international long haul as a B747 Captain for Korean Air. In 1999 I decided to terminate my status as an ex-patriot and moved back to Alaska from Sydney Australia. During the summer of 2000 I was hired by ConocoPhillips (formerly Phillips Petroleum) as a corporate pilot for the...Expand for more
ir employee shuttle operation based in Anchorage. The company operates 24 Boeing 737 flights per week to support oil production on the North Slope (Prudhoe Bay). There are times I miss the international flying but the opportunity to be home has proved to very worthwhile. Currently I am the Assistant Chief Pilot of the ConocoPhillips Alaska Aviation Group. My responsibilities are divided between flying the B737 and administrative duties. My educational background is in aviation. I have a degree in Professional Aeronautics with a Minor in Business from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I will complete a Masters Degree in Aviation Management / Aviation Safety by Christmas 2008. Life's Good
