Douglas's Story

Life Currently in New Jersey and Florida, but usually vacation in Wisconsin. Retired military, USAF LtCol w/30 years, done flying hurricanes with the hurricane hunters and ran the tanker/airlift side of the war in the middle east for the past 6 years, but now teaching AFJROTC in Allentown Pa for a switch. Miss the war and flying greatly, but like to be with the wife and 4 children. Wife tried to divorce me in March, but I stopped that with a little negotiation. Seems like she thinks she should get all my attention now I am done blasting. Think again. Miss many of the old friends of high school now that I am back in that environment. By the way, the Dieruff HS mascot is the Husky, that's why I took the job. Have a house in Florida too that I built myself in the 80's and headed there next week. Though the govt put me on the retired roles, I will never retire -wanted to stay engaged with the war and would go back tonight given a chance. I run 5-7 miles a day yet (tonight I did 9 but the heat here in Alabama was about 90 so I kept the pace moderate-a lot cooler than Qatar this time of year!!) Hope old friends are having as great a life as I have had. Talk about being blessed. Feel like 20 and act like 15 (hence problems with the chip-saram, wife). Great family and fantastic future. I have to thank everyone for everything in my life. Only regret is I should have dated all the great looking gals in Nathan Hale . Talk about being stupid, duh, did I blow it. Anytime you want to visit in Jersey, 30 miles east of Philly, give me a call, I'm not unlisted (Tabernacle). The pool is great this year! Take care and God bless. Doug PS Thanksgiving update-I bought a nice little place in the countryside north of Allentown. Foreclosure, 6 bedroom, 2 kitchens 4 1/2 bath, custom built in better than new condition. View out the greatroom is on Blue Mountain, it fills all the 2 stories of windows. If I walk 2 miles up the mountain I am on the Appalachian Trail, which I and my son Erik hiked a bit of 2 weekends ago. Beautiful with all the fall co...Expand for more
lors. Bring your cc/downhill skis and hiking boots. Poconos ski area is about 30 minutes away. The basement is a complete living area as well, with full kitchen and utility room and great view of the mountains as well. Anyone need an apartment? Real country living though, only 3 neighbors (I can only see the one) and a farm on the road. I call it my crash pad. The wife thinks I am up to no good again, but it is so quiet up there you can hear the stars twinkle. Cheryl, I tried to write, but don't think it got to you. Try me at airliftrr. Teaching is even more fun this year. Golly is it great to be alive. Take care ya'all. Doug Update. I resigned from the AFJROTC position to go back on active duty Air Force as of 15 October. I guess they think I still have something left. I am in the 618 TACC at Scott AFB near St. Louis. This was my Parent headquarters while I was fighting the war. I immediately volunteered for combat posting, but currently I am planning the Aeromedical Evacuation missions worldwide. Great job and very very happy to be working with the troops and aircrew again. Just sent the wife back to NJ to watch over the houses for the holidays while I close on one here. I am still working to get back into the fight in the desert, but will have to ride the wave here a while and get hardened into fighting trim. Kathy is doing great at Nursing in Loyola U at Chicago and got an army achievement medal for saving a fellow ROTC cadet at an accident at a DFT, Erik finished up as Distinguished Graduate at army advanced training for air traffic control and will be back in engineering at Penn State next month. Nels is loving his clinicals in York Pa and expects to take a residency in ER trauma surgery. He is proud to be 2nd Lt in the Pa Army National Guard .Christina continues to study with Nelson Shanks in Pa for portrait illustration- her work compares well to Titian or Rembrant. Nam hovers over me like a hawk, keeping track of me when I let her. Hope everyone is having a great Christmas and New Year's. Best wishes to all!!! Doug
