Life
Hello everyone,
After a short stint at HACC I went back to Canada to play hockey. In 1984 I had an opportunity to work with CCA's Chef of the Year in Calgary while they assembled the Canadian Culinary Olympic Team for Vancouver's World Expo 85'-86'. I worked with a bunch of Intense Europeans putting out Haute Cuisine under Silver Domes at Emerald Park in North Vancouver. Queen Elizabeth was one of the many Elite Clientele we cooked for. After the Expo I told my Dad I was heading home and rode my mountain bike to Seattle, caught a flight to Philly and knocked on his door. He said "that didn't take too long !"...thinking I rode my bike cross country (LOL). I worked a little in PA. but it was just "meat & potatoes" so I headed to Florida where I opened upscale restaurant concepts in Boca Raton and Sarasota. We were the first to receive the DiRoNa award. DC market receiving Washingtonian's "Top 50" three times, the "Top 100" five times and "50 Best Sunday Brunches" three times. In 2001 I was invited to the James Beard House in Manhatten and nominated for Mid Atlantic Chef of the year. Being invited to the James Beard House is like winning the Stanley Cup of Culinary. In 2002 I cooked for Julia Child's 90th Birthday here in DC while her kitchen was moved to the Smithsonian. My wife and just built a new house in Alexandria and got married in April 2002. She's an IT wiz and built the Intranet for the AOL-Time Warner merger in Dulles. Jennifer grew up in Lancaster playing tennis and we met here over a cup of soup. We have two dogs..."Super" Dog and a German Short Haired Pointer...Bailey & Morgan. Hope to catch up a little with some of you... but I don't expect much since I didn't stay in touch.
