Duane's Story

Started El Dorado as a freshman in 1974 in the old brick building and I enjoyed Mr. Fairchild's English class ' "Godzilla grades on a curve¿, Mr. Pacino's Spanish class, Mr. Bidstrip's wood shop, Mr. Swenson Ag Shop, Mr. Mark's algebra and Mr. Galloway's geometry. Most of all I think I gained my current skills from Mr. Clarence Roundtree's mechanical and architecture drafting classes. I started my Architecture business at age 16, while still in High School at El Dorado. Worked in construction while continuing my education at El Dorado and then to Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. I worked for Asplund, trimming trees while I continued to grow my business. In the summer, I also worked in the woods setting chokers, chasing landings and driving a skidder. After a couple of near death experiences with trees versus equipment, I went back to Architecture. I planned a wedding to a Ponderosa Bruin in 1979 and then she became a "Runaway Bride", only to run off with me to Minden Nevada in 1980, where we got married before a Justice of the Peace. The union of a Bruin and a Cougar lasted ten years before we divorced. No kids to separate, but I did build us a nice two story house on a half acre lot in Cameron Park that later became a battle ground. After the failure of the marriage, I moved to Sacramento and then to the Bay Area. I moved in with my brother and then found an apartment and another Architectural job in Danville, CA. tball and a beer at a local bar with some friends, I met my current wife. She swept me off of my feet and after a few dates I moved in with her. She had been divorce for a few years and had a young child. We continued to grow our relationship and I took up the position of second dad to her son, sharing baseball, school work and video games. By 1995 we were sure that we wanted to make the commitment to each other and we headed for Jamaica with my father and his wife. My wife Cathy and I have been married now for almost 14 years. We have 2 cocker spaniels and a house in Discovery Bay, CA, and we just welcomed our first grandchild to the family in July of 2008. I have been having fun playing the sport of my youth, ice hockey, as well as coaching youth hockey in Dublin, CA. Playing goalie is exciting and challenging and it burns a lot of calories. I have had the opportunity to play with some of the past players and coaches of the San Jose Sharks and I learned a lot from them. We love going to the games in San Jose as well as the Double A minor hockey in Stockton. From 1990 to 2002, I worked in Architecture and Computers at a few offices all over the East and West Bay Area as well as Stockton, CA. As of 2002, I found another Architectural firm headquartered in Danville, CA where I was the Information Systems Manager. Now I work for the California Prison Health Care Services Desktop Support team. Life is good and I am "Too Blessed to be Stressed". Duane Steele , Cougars '77
