Durward's Story
Life
I graduated from WSU in 1963. I had taken USAF ROTC so I entered the USAF as a Second Lt. serving at Forbes AFB, KS in Topeka. I left active duty in 1966 and stayed in the USAFReserve at McConnell AFB, KS until 1985, reached the rank of Major. I served as Base Computer Officer for 4 years and Hospital Administrator for the remaining years.
My wife and I started and operated Jayhawk Accountants, Inc. in Wichita during the 1970's. During the 1980's, I entered the field of Public Administration, serving as City Clerk, Finance Director, City and County Administrator and Manager. I served the city's of Girard, KS; Colby, KS; Flagler Beach, FL; Galena, KS and Dickinson County, KS (at Abilene).
I'm retired. My wife died in 2005 so I moved to Rogers, Arkansas; 1 mile from the Highway 12 bridge over Beaver Lake.
I have kidney dialysis treatments 3 times per week on Mon., Wed., and Friday mornings from 0600 to 1100. So I can fish on Tues., Thurs., and the weekends.
I have 2 boats; one a small 2-man Water Scamp that is powered by a trolling motor. I use that boat on Lake Atalanta in Rogers for trout. The other boat is a 16' Switzer with a 110 HP stern drive and is used on Beaver. I can fish and run around with my kids and their families with it. I also fish the tailing waters coming out of Beaver Dam for trout over by Eureka Springs, AR.

IL. He is married to an RN/Practioner in Neurology. They have 7 kids and so their boat is a 12 passenger Crownline and is used primarily for waterskiing.
Our second, Marvin, is a civilian during the week and T/Sgt on weekends at McConnell AFB, KS with the KS Air National Guard in Intelligence. His wife is expecting #3 in Sept. They have a Mastercraft stored locally so weekends finds them staying with me and waterskiing. His wife is a teacher, when employed, but is currently a stay-at-home mom with the 2 boys.
#3, Jeffrey, is self-employed with National Home Buyers Assistance and Computer Consultant living on 62 acres in Paola, KS; up by KC. He works week-ends at the KS. Air National Guard at McConnell AFB, KS as a T/Sgt in computers. His farm animals include working draft horses, various foul, goats and feeder beef. Some of the goats and cattle are rare so he has special care requirements to meet. His wife is in middle management at Sprint in KC.
#4, Steven, is a Corporate Pilot for CFI, the OTR trucking firm, in Joplin, MO. His wife is an RN in Home Care and a stay-at-home mom with their 2 girls. They took over my parents property on Beaver, built on it, and have a boat dock behind it. I have use of the dock. They have 2 boats for waterskiing at their place so they are here quite often checking on me. Their oldest girl is 5 and received her first pair of waterski's for Christmas so I should see them weekly this year.
