Dwayne's Story
I'm currently a civilian remote duty paramedic attached to NATO in Kandahar Afghanistan. I'm married to Barbara, my wife of 22 years and we share our lives with our autistic son Dylan.
I won't write my life's story, but would like to share some of what it's currently like in pictures, and my silly attempt to describe them. I'm not sure how they will be received, as my perspective after being here a while is queered. But I'll ask that you believe that it is not my intention to shock or disgust, not my way to try and convince you that I'm heroic, as there's no one the planet less deserving of such a title than me, but only to show a little bit of what war life is like for these fine people.
If it is not well received, then certainly I will discontinue to post them, as it's not my goal to shove this down anyone's throat, but to show a glimpse into a life that most will ...Expand for more
never see.
Please understand that I am not a journalist, nor a scholar, but just an old, tired paramedic doing one tiny job in one tiny country. I'll attempt to relay the stories as honestly as possible, but true and complete stories can be hard to come by here.
Also, my access here is limited by my location, so I'll try my best to answer any questions that I can, but will ask you to be patient if those answers are sometimes a little while coming.
I have no opinion on Iraq. Iraq and Afghanistan are two different worlds to me, and mine keeps me plenty occupied. But I will say, and it will soon become clear, that I believe that we belong here. We were right to come, and we are right to stay. Some evil can't be talked away, it must simply be eliminated, and some innocent lives are worth protecting, and I believe both goals are being met here.
Have a great day.
