Life
Greetings Bulldogs! After completing a PhD in political science at the University of Chicago, I ended up at Baylor University in Texas, where I am presently an associate professor in the Department of Political Science. I stepped down as director of graduate studies for the Department at the beginning of the fall semester, 2008, in order to have time to complete a couple of book projects that I've been chipping away at for too many years now. (If you're interested in a more detailed account of my doings since high school, consult the "timeline" feature. For more about my current book-projects, see the elaborations under the images of key figures in my intellectual life compiled in "photos" below.)
My latest book-length publication is an annotated translation of "Suddenly...Expand for more
Everything was Different: German Lives in Upheaval" by an East German Author, Olaf Georg Klein (available from Amazon.com). If you liked "The Lives of Others" (Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, 2006), you should find Klein's book fascinating.
I finally married (1987) and now have two wonderful children: Anthony (1996) and Sebastian (2002). My wife, a native Texan, took her PhD from Berkeley. She has a position in Baylor's Department of English and is just completing her first novel.
Because our lives are ordered around an academic calendar, we are able to spend part of the summer (usually the month of July) in Provo at the old homestead. I'm always happy to bump into former classmates, so don't hestitate to drop by (but beware, I'm a registered democrat). Cheers! 12/30/08
