Dwight's Story
This is a quick summary of 32 years. I graduated with the high school class of 1972.
I continued my education at Arapahoe Community College in Jan 73 after discovering that life did not offer much work opportuity without more education. In the summer of 1974 I graduated from ACC with an AA in General Studies, and proceeded to CSU, graduating in May of 1976 with a BA in Technical Journalism.
The job market was tight in the summer of 1976, so in July I entered the U.S. Air Force, and served four years at Nellis AFB, NV. I entered as enlisted, but had a guaranteed specialty as an information specialist. During my last year in the Air Force I served as a unit historian.
In 1980 I returned to Colorado. My father died in 1981. My efforts to find work in journalism were discouraging, with the best offer being a copy boy on a split shift at the Denver Post. I went into retail management and was moved all over Colorado, and eventually ended up in Kansas, at which point a recession caused my layoff.
I returned to Colorado for a few weeks, and then to California to see my oldest sister and her husband and children. My mother, an aunt, and another sister were also living in the same area. I met my future wife while staying with my sist...Expand for more
er, and was married in February 1983.
Four years later our first child was born, my mother and an aunt came and helped out for a month. My mother died in December of that year. Five years after that our daughter was born. We also purchased a small house about the same time.
In the late 90's I discovered technical writing and left the retail field. I have remained a technical writer to the present. The nature of high technology and silicon valley has caused me to spend as much time contracting as being a permanent employee, but the pay is good, and we have managed quite well.
Finally, some random comments. I have converted most of my photos and videos to electronic files through scanning and using a video capture card. This gives me a wealth of material to share, but I won't go too crazy. I want to provide items of passing interest but not bore you to death.
I also have a work oriented web site, since I am a contractor at times. You can view my way-too-detailed site at dheasterday.com. It was created using DreamWeaver and is about four years old now. One of my next projects is to recreate it using straight HTML code. If you know anybody who uses technical writers you can send them there, my email address is also on the site.
