Dyan's Story
I joined here a while back but just wasn't ready to spend the time to really get involved. Too many memories.....
If you remember me at all, you know that I married Mike Luper immediately after graduation. We lived in Comanche and both attended Tarleton. When Mike got his BA in 1973 we moved to Mineral Wells so he could teach and I finished at Tarleton. In summer 1974 we moved to Corpus Christi so I could do my medical technology internship. We stayed there for 32 years! Mike got his MA degree and I became supervisor of a clinical microbiology lab and then of multiple labs in the corporation.
In late 2003, Mike had a bad heart attack and subsequent complications forced him to retire from teaching and coaching. He was already retirement-eligible but loved working, too.
After almost 25 years,my job in the lab became too much management and too little time playing with the bugs (Okay - I'm strange that way!). When I saw a job in R&D for a global medical microbiology company, I applied - and got it. It meant moving to Baltimore, MD but I was up for the challenge so in mid-2006 Mike and I packed all our stuff in a 16-ft truck and moved 1721 miles! Mike was retire...Expand for more
d so he spent his time working part-time at Home Depot, golfing, and trying out new recipes.
God's ways are unfathomable and His challenges aren't often easy. We had been in MD only 15 months when Mike became ill. Diagnosis was slow but the cancer was not and Mike passed away in mid-December of 2007.
By this time, our daughter, Megan, and grandaughter, Kalie, had moved here to live and they remain here. Megan is going to college and Kalie is in the 1st grade.
We also have a son, Christopher, who lives in Corpus Christi in our house (which we couldn't sell) with his wife and 5 children. They have a blended family - 2 of hers, 1 of his, and 2 of their own - ranging from 2 months to 17 years.
I love my job as it gives me variety and some travel. When I have free time, I like to get outdoors - I love hiking, backpacking, camping, canoeing or kayaking. This is a great area for those things. I also travel back to Texas a couple times a year to visit my son and friends in San Antonio.
I lost my dad in 1981 and my mom in 2002 so I haven't been back to Comanche since she passed. My brother, Don, lives in Brownwood but will soon move to Blanco along with his son.
