ENRIQUE MORENO:

ENRIQUE's Story

Well...let me start since I left Superior and back to Mexico. I could not return to the USA because my family did not finance my visa and expenses for my trip because they were afraid they would send me to Vietnam. I was really disappointed and left the house and started living with some friends and working odd jobs and never getting a good source for my returning. I thought about Susan, my high school sweetheart for many months and then decided to let go the dream of seen her again and knew that she would find a good guy to marry. It was a difficult decision. Anyways, I finally found a good job with an important nationwide bakery as an auditor, which was my degree in my country. I only did that for three years when I was invited to work as an English teacher at a local school of languages for two years and was also invited to work for an elite high school for rich people during the mornings. The languages school was a late afternoon and night type. Since I had my afternoons free, the University of Sonora hired me in the afternoons, so with that, I had a full day of work. Still, having the weekends free, a teacher colleague invited me to join the local Fire Department as a volunteer. After a year, the University went on strike and it lasted six months and decided also to leave the night school and keep only the High School. At that time, I got married with a girl that worked at a restaurant. With more time free, I dedicated more time to the Fire Department. During those days, the High School also assigned me as a teacher of mecanography (to teach the use of typewriters). After 10 years at the HS, which was a private school, I left and went to work at another government HS. In my free afternoons I joined a weldin...Expand for more
gs school in orfer to learn, and after a year there, I ended up as a teacher of weldings. I should say that when learning weldings, I was in an Arts Course for a year to paint portraits and landscapes. So I HS in the mornings, Weldings in the afternoons and Fire Dept two nights and week ends. 1985 came and the same friend that invited me to join the FD had moved to Phoenix. He started to work as a translator for the Court there. He invited me to drop everything in Mexico and move to Phoenix because there was a judge that needed a translator. It did not go through and had to go back to Mexico. Luckly enough, the FD changed from all Volunteers to City Owned and was hired as a Captain. With the schedule of firefighter, I had some free days and started working for a local beatings & belts company on the side as a salesman. The owner was satisfied with my work and offered me what I was making at the FD plus commisions, so I took it and went back as volunteer. With the new company I was selling local brands and also had a supplier from Tucson. Since I was buying a good amount from the Tucson store, guess what? They offered me a job arrainging all my paper so as to live in Tucson for a year, and later open up the business in Mexico as General Manager. Did it for 12 years and retired. But...I couldn't stay still, with 51 yrs old I helped a frien who was running for mayor. Didn't make it. One of his sisters had a contact with a big Landscaping Company in Phoenix and talked to them about me, so I was hired in 2003 and have been working for them as Driver, Administrator, Sprat technician and Welder aside from servin as leeason between Mexicans and whites (they bring 120 workers from different parts of Mexico)... The End.
