Earl's Story
Earl's schools include Mount Vernon High School. I married Connie Coates (MVHS '66) in 1969. I was attending The University of Tennessee and Connie was an RN. I graduated with a B.S. in Forestry and Wildlife and briefly did some wildlife research on Ft. Belvoir before staring a career with The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. I had a twenty-six year career there as a Park Ranger, Chief Park Naturalist, Park Manager and finally as Chief of Administration. While there I took a number of graduate courses at George Mason University in Environmental Biology but never finished the degree. I took an early retirement from N.V.R.P.A. and became Fairfax County's first Wildlife Biologist. The position was within the Police Department and I worked with the S.W.A.T. team snipers to control the growing deer herd in the County. While there I was selected as part...Expand for more
of a Northern Virginia Public Service Fellowship program and received a Master of Public Administration degree from G.M.U. I left the F.C.P.D. after eleven years to accept a position with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services. There I worked at their headquarters in Riverdale, MD for five years. I served as Chairman of their Firearms Committee, as a member of the Wildlife Services Explosives Safety Committee, Chairman of the Headquarters Safety Committee, member of the Wildlife Services Safety Committee and of the USDA Safety Committee.
We have two children; Megan who lives in Newport News, VA and Brent who lives in Dale City, VA. Megan works for an accounting firm and Brent works for N.V. R. P. A. as a Park Specialist. Megan has a daughter Austyn who is our first grandchild.
Connie and I are retired and live on a farm in Smithfield, VA.
