David's Story

I graduated this month from the Equine Management and Training Program at Arapahoe Community College as a certified professional equine manager and trainer. After two shoulder surgeries and a knee replacement (November 2019), I can't do much training, but I continue to teach therapeutic riding to special needs kids, which I have been doing for three years this time. For the past couple years, I have been in the Equine Management and Training Program at Arapahoe Community College. It took this long, but I have decided on what I want to do...be a horse trainer, and I have formally and officially embarked on the path to becoming certified as a horse trainer. I have leased a horse for training, and I am working with another horse and trainer to meet the lab hours requirements for the course. Currently volunteering at two PATH (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horseman) programs, one with veterans and one with special needs kids. Previously volunteered for a couple years at the Harmony Equine Center, a rescue organization for abused, starved, abandoned, and diseased animals that were seized by law enforcement or are under court order, where I fed, mucked, groomed, wal...Expand for more
ked, and pretty much did everything except tack and ride horses. Also, previously volunteered for four years at The Right Step PATH program for special needs kids, where I worked with two autistic children and their assigned horses. ============ College Bachelor's Degree in English Writing Master's Degree in Education -- Adult Education and Distance Learning. ========= Workplace Retired from NetApp as a technical writer for large-scale hardware and software technology. Retired again as a technical writer, from Rise Broadband, a national wireless broadband provider. Previously taught creative writing at Arapahoe Community College, and the irony is that I am not a creative writer. I am a writer of non-fictions works, including software documentation, resumes (which is actually the ultimate form of creative writing), research articles, and other "stuff." Previously taught English Composition and Technical Writing at Denver Technical College and DeVry University. ========= Military Retired after 20 years in the US Army--82nd Airborne Division, 5th Special Forces, 6th Special Forces, and other airborne units. Five-and-a-half years in Germany; two-and-a-half years in Vietnam.
