Ed's Story
Life
Flunked out of Buffalo, 1962. Lived in NY until 1972, between NYC and LI. Married 1966, annulled 1969, remarried 1969. Worked in crummy jobs in garment center, 1962-72. Finally finished college, Dowling, 1972.
Moved to Washington DC, 12/72. Separated 1974.
Found work in computer/consulting work, 1973.
Started doing music reviews, articles 1977. Mostly R&R (punk rock), branched out into jazz, theater, started writing a humor column. Continued to free-lance in local papers on wide variety of subjects, including minor-league baseball, comedy, food.
Jazz history became a hobby.
Stayed with day job, where I met Adele 1978, began living together 1980.
Became less and less thrilled with DC, began looking for alternatives, 1985, or so.
After exploring the west coast from Seattle to San Diego, we chose Portland, Oregon. Moved there 1991, without jobs or prospects.

an writing a novel and working in radio.
Now, I have published two novels, "Served Cold" (Shamus Award) and "Dead Air," a third published in Feb., 2005, "True Crime," as Alan Gold, and I'm looking for a publisher for the fourth.
I am a movie reviewer for KBOO-FM, as well as interviewing touring authors. I also am a classical DJ on KBPS-FM. I also am a guest occasionally on jazz and country music shows (Hank Williams and Patsy Cline, not Garth Brooks and Shania Twain).
I am a good cook, still read a lot, have an artificial left hip (Feb. of 2002) and got a fake knee Jan. 2005.
Adele is the best thing that ever happened to me. Three times is a charm.
My cat, Noodles, is a big orange thug who graces our house with birds and rodents he hauls in in various stages of demise. It's the live rats that piss me off. So annoying.
I drink too much beer, and plenty of wine, and keep a bottle of Polish potato vodka in my freezer in case you drop in.
Happy to be alive.
