Ed's Story

Well, whatever it is...it's my story so here goes: I can't believe that I'm eligible for medicare this month, I guess that's a good thing. At 65 I have 4 children, 5 grandchildren and one on the way. They're all special in their own way, with their accomplishments, challenges and heartaches. As for me, life has been good, despite some of my best efforts to sabotage myself. Interesting is probably the best way to decribe me and my life. I quit Brockport in 1964, had a short summer with a brand new Mustang convertible, and joined the Army. Was selected for Military Intelligence training, and upon completion was sent to Germany on a clandestine misssion in undercover status as a German (I was a German linguist). It was pretty cool. Unfortunately Viet Nam reared its head, and I was reassigned to an intelligence unit there. Came home intact after a year and went back to Brockport. My own demons got in my way and I was not invited back after another year there. Got married, had four kids in short order, while working on LI and NYC in the investigative field. Did well with work, not with marriage. After 8 years marriage ended, quit job and found a new career doing consulting work for plaintiff's attorneys, in medical malpractice...it's a long story. Eventually had my own consulting business, but decided to change careers in 1989 and went to work for Merrill Lynch as a stock broker. Married in the meantime, divorced a second time...still running from my demons. Finally got it together, still in the financial business, a new...Expand for more
partner (she's a retired teacher and adminstrator), and now with nearly 25 continuous years in AA, find that I don't have those demons anymore. Life is good. Bought myself a toy('83 Porsche 911SC Cabriolet) which keeps me spending money, but enjoying it(the Porsche, not spending money.) Looking to retire in a year or two, and am starting up a small business to keep me busy and out of trouble in retirement. It's a specialty food business (love to cook and create/tweak recipes)that I hope to have up and running by July/August 2009 and will have the products on the shelves in high-end grocery and gourmet food stores in the Hudson Valley and NYC. Details later. If I've bored anyone(or everyone), I apoligize. That's one of the risks of telling someone you'd like to hear what they've been up to. I hope to hear from my old BHS friends, many of whom, I'm sure, have more interesting stories than mine. Fond regards to all, Ed Klebaur BHS '62 9/8/14 Update: Well, retired 6/30/14 and am loving it. Life is good, I'm in good health (with a few replaced parts) and still with my love, Irene. This seems to work better than marriage for me. We just passed 13 yrs together, and the future looks bright. Still haven't gotten my specialty food biz going, but may pursue it in "retirement". We're enjoying travel, particularly Europe and will visit ancestral home (Colmar, France) in the Spring. Went to BHS beach party this weekend...good to see some old classmates/friends; would love to hear from others. Regards to all, Ed Klebaur (9/8/14)
