Ed's Story

Fresh out of H.S. I worked at the Willow Run Chevy Plant in Ypsilanti til 71. I found Jesus in 71 joined a ministry with Boyd Chavis & Pete Galambus and Jack Wyatt. Got a job as a technician fixing copying machines in 73. In 76 I took a sabbatical leave of absense.I searched all over for people serving God. From 77-79 I did a lot of travelling: Florida, Montana, Washington State, down to Mexico. Worked with the immigrant workers for a while. Went down to Guadalajara what a beautiful place that was. Came back to the U.S. and moved into a cave in Phoenix Ariz. There I learned of the Hopi Indians and how exon oil was trying to buy their land. I sent a letter (along with many others) asking Jimmy Carter to stop exon oil from taking possession of their land. Hopi prophecy says if they were allowed to get what was under the floors of the people (oil) they would be touching the "heart" of the earth. Washington responded favorably saying they were no longer in pusuit of the land. I didn't believe it so I went to old Araibi the Hopi reservation. Spent one night with an elder, the late James Koots. He was 102 (1978) . Visited the late Chief, Thomas Bunyacya. They confirmed our prayers had been answered. and then to another cave in Tucson. Went to California, just outside of L.A.. Started fishing (squid) in 80. Moved into a boat. About midway into 1980 I found out my father had passed away in 79. Went back to Dearborn Hts. to help my mother.Got some college in between 1980 and 1983. I studied psychology. I was hoping to become a social worker. On "good Friday" 1983, while paying a visit to the Detroit Zoo I was given the book "Bhagavad gita" (The song of God) Two days later On Easter Sunday 1983 I visited the Hare Krishna Temple in Detroit. I moved in on the first visit. They answered every question I ever had about God. We cook 6 offerings a day feeding the general public with sanctified food offered to God. I became a priest and had a weekly radio show "Spirits in the material world " I moved back to Tucson wher...Expand for more
e we have another temple to serve there for 2 more years, got married in '92 for 7 years, divorced and came back to Detroit in 99. I started another Radio show out of Windsor University in 2003, "What the world needs now" .I've been back here ever since. I serve here now (semi retired). I preach (give lectures), cook, and act as a purchasing agent for the Temple. I just returned from a trip to India in 2013. My third trip. I went this time to see a city we (the Hare Krishna Movement) are building there. We are building a "Vedic" Planetarium in Sridam Mayapur. It is a fulfillment of prophecy that the little place in India called Nadia would be visited by people from all over the world to glorify the names of God. It's significant because in 1486 Sri Caitanya "the Golden Avatar" took residence in India to manifest the "Dharma" for this age. According to Caitanya Maha Prabhu, the easiest way to go back to Home (to God) is to sing (chant) God's Holy Names: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. By chanting these names of God one becomes purified of all material desires and becomes free from the material entanglement (birth, death, old age, and disease) and becoming purified ultimately one developes pure love for God. The nature of the soul is that it is eternal and it is part and parcel of God. We are finite and infinitessimaly small but we (the soul) are made of the same substance God is made of. In order to return to our "original" place with God we practice here that spiritual activity we will continue to do when we leave here, in the hereafter. By constant application of the spirtual teachings given by His Divine Grace, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupad one can transcend the influences of this mortal world and experience the Divine, always. I hope to remain here (at the temple in Det.) until I depart this mortal world and I will continue to be chanting, preaching, and distributing sanctified food and books. My initiated name is now Ekanta.
