Ed's Story
After graduation, my family moved back to Indianapolis which is where I was born. I entered college to study accounting, but I left during my junior year to grow my hair long and pursue my music career. After a couple albums and a lot of effort, the band disbanded and I found a job with the United States Treasury Department where I worked for 13years. During that time, I actually had a couple conversations of a business nature with a few of my former classmates from Southaven High School. It is also where a co-worker/softball teammate set me up on a blind date with the woman who would become my wife. I brought her to our 10-year reunion, but that is the last time I have been to Southaven. We have 2 children, a daughter, Taylor, and a son, Stephen. During my time with the Treasury Department, I had found that office work was not for me. A friend who had just returned from the Navy, persuaded me to check out a career in the fire service. It seemed to be my calling. It took a few years and 8 or 9 hiring processes, but a couple months after my son was born, I finally became a firefighter/EMT on the eastside of Indianapolis. During the last 16 years I have done and seen a lot, both personally and professionally, but the greatest part has been watching and helping my children grow up. You see a lot...Expand for more
of horrific things in the fire service ... but we get 2 days between shifts to spend with our families, which always helps me put things in perspective and recharge me for our next shift.
My daughter is a sophomore in college studying chemistry/pre-med and my son is a sophomore in high school thinking about becoming an engineer of some sort.
Now that my children are growing up, I have decided to start playing music a little more seriously once again. While I have always had a drum set and played at some level or another since high school, I currently have 2 bands going, and we play out every 3rd week (when I have Saturday and Sunday off) around the Indianapolis area. I also enjoy woodworking, fishing, watching sports (especially football), hanging out with friends and family and my dogs ... a black lab and pit bulls.
2014 has been a bit of a lost year for me, as I have spent nearly the entire year recovering from an automobile accident I had in December of 2013. I have gone back to desk duty, and hopefully by February I will be back on the streets, doing what I still enjoy.
I hope the new year will allow us more time to travel as I would love to come visit the city in which I spent 6 great years. I have heard about how much the city has changed, but I would like to see it for myself.
