Ed's Story
Life
Hi Everyone,
Well, after 35 years teaching, I retired in October, 2004. I had two great careers in Easton and Stoughton. I've come to know so many fine people in both communities, some of whom are friends today. So what have I been doing since retirement - I have a home in Tucson, Arizona in a community with tennis, golf, swimming and all that stuff. The home is at the foothills of the Santa Catalina mountains and has a great view. I travel between Easton and Tucson throughout the year - I still have my condo in Easton. Although I have a turbo charged golf cart, I don't play golf. I can't imagine spending almost 4 hours hitting a golf ball around - yeah I know, it's probably my attention deficit disorder! I'm sick of all the snow & bitter cold in New England!
Retirement has been good and I really enjoy having the time to do whatever I want whenever I want. As always, I go out to eat all the time. There are no good Chinese restaurants here in Tucson - oh, do I miss my Chinatown restaurant and of course, Town Spa!
Well, it's now June, 2006 and I'm back in Easton. Guess what - I miss being in the classroom. As much as I've enjoyed the past 2 years in retirement, I have to get back to the classroom. If I don't, my brain will turn in to mush. I'm hoping that I'll be back in front of the kids teaching Geometry real soon.
It's now September, 2006 and I'm working in Holbrook mentoring teachers. The best part of my day is when I'm in the classroom and teaching; I guess I can't get it out of my blood. We'll see how I feel a year from now!
It's February, 2007 now - last month I sold my home in Tucson. As much as I loved my home and friends there, I'm not able to make the break from N...Expand for more
ew England. I have so much history with friends and family that are here in Massachusetts. Life has been good!
Well, it's now September, 2007 and I'm in my second year at Holbrook Junior Senior High School. I work a couple days a week with the math teachers. They say that my efforts paid off last year because the kids had a very respectable improvement in their MCAS scores - you remember MCAS - the true measure of one's success in life!
I've also been raising Sophie, my 11 month old Cockapoo - 15 pounds of never-ending energy. Of course, when I'm at school, she goes to doggy day care; I wouldn't want her to get bored when I'm not home!
It's now January 2009 and life is different, once again. Last June I accepted a position as Math Consultant for an educational software company. I travel throughout the country presenting the software and training teachers. After 37 years in education, I'm in the business sector. Do I still miss being in the classroom; absolutely!
It¿s now March 2010 and I¿m still with the educational software company traveling all over the country. When I meet with teachers, they¿re looking younger and younger every day; I wonder why that is! I recently met with a superintendent of schools who was a former student of mine. Now that was a great experience to meet up with a former student who has reached such a high level in education. He was impressive when he was a student and is even more impressive as an administrator. I would like the opportunity to work for him one day. Oh, you never know; I still have a few more good years left ¿ there¿s time!
Life is still good!
As always, I would love to hear from any of you that remembers me.
Best wishes,
Ed Weiner
