Edgar's Story
Life
Hi my name is Edgar, I attended Polytechnic High School for my sophmore and Junior year. I was in the Cross Country and Track team both years and we were the Champions both years. I have alot of fond memories of the students and staff at Polytechenic High. For my senior year my family moved and I ended up attending and graduating from Balboa High School. Once again I was part of a Championship Cross Country and Track team. I guess I must have been a lucky person to have on the team.
I graduated in the Spring of 1969 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps. I served 8 years active duty, including a tour and extentsion in Vietnam. I was an infantry Marine serving with the 1st Marine Division. I was also stationed at the Marine Barracks in Yokosuka, Japan. I loved Japan, I enjoyed the people the culture and the beautiful landscape. I also deployed with the 32nd Marine Amphibious Unit and that took me to Beirut Lebanon, where we conducted and evacuation of civilians from the battle torn country. After my discharge, I took advantage of the GI Bill educational benefits and attended Evergreen Valley College in San Jose. I also worked at the college in the veterans office. I enjoyed helping other veterans and I also made many great friends while working there. I not only managed to get my A.A. Degree in Administration of Justice (Law Enforcement) but I also was able to attend a couple of semesters at San Jose State. Unfortunately, due to financial considerations, I was not able to complete my four year degree). However, I did have a successful career with the California Department of Corrections.. ave been married 3 times. I think I finally got it right this time (at least it's been going good for over 32 years.) I have a 49 year old son, who retired from the United States Marine Corps as a master sergeant in June of 2012. During his 20 year career he served three combat tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. He has also served in Okinawa, Japan and has traveled to many other countries during his service. He graduated with honors from a four year university. I also have a 24 year old daughter and a 22 year old son. My daughter graduated from high school and has been living out of state for the last five years... My youngest son has been serving in the United States Marine Corps for the last three years and is currently stationed in Camp Pendleton, California... I like connecting with old friends and I am hoping that there will be a possibility of another class reunion that is why I'm here with classmates. I attended the Balboa Class of 1969 50th reunion in 2019.. I was retired and living in Mountain Grove, Missouri, with my lovely wife, Marianne (who is a registered nurse plus a cancer survivor)and our two children. My wife was serving as the administrator of our children's Christian school. Unfortunately, her cancer had returned and she had to undergo surgery and very aggressive chemo therapy treatment. I appreciated the many of you who prayed and had good wishes for my wife. Well, our two year adventure in the Missouri Ozarks, came to an end in the summer of 2010 due to my wife's illness. We have been back in sunny California since then and I went back to work part time.until 2016.
