Edgard's Story

I joined the U.S. State Department as a foreign service officer in 1991. I am currently living in Canberra, Australia, where I serve as Economic Counselor at the U.S. Embassy. My wife and I have three children (5 1/2, 4 and 2). We came to Canberra in 2007 after spending four years in Beijing, China, where I served at the U.S. Embassy. I worked in the State Department's office of Chinese Affairs from 2000-2002 after serving at the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel from 1997-2000. I worked on the State Department Policy Planning staff, at the U.S. Embassy in Budapest, Hungary and the U.S. Embassy in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire from ...Expand for more
1991-1997. I joined the State Department after working for the New York City Bureau of Bridges from 1989-1991, leaving as Director of Fiscal and Budget. After graduating from New Trier in 1985, I attended Yale University, graduating with a history degree in 1989. My parents retired and moved away from Wilmette in 1997, and I haven't been to the Chicago area since 2004. We love living in Australia, as we loved living in China before that. We feel extraordinarily lucky to have three healthy and happy children. Representing the United States in five different countries has been a tremendous honor. Life's been good.
