Edith's Story
I was married in 1970 t0 my high school sweetheart, Milton Windle. After our divorce in 1976, completed an Associates degree in Alpena Community College and with an honor scholarship completed my undergraduate at Central Michigan University. Sold everything I owned and moved with my 4 year old to Eugene, Oregon the month I completed my Bachelor's. Earned a Master's in Psychology, was accepted into the law school, but was invited into the PhD program in Rhetoric and Communication-tuition paid. Finished my PhD in 1986 from University of Oregon and have been teaching as a tenured full professor (1991) at California State University Sacramento since 1986. Have traveled the world teaching and for fun. Had the opportunity to teach for the University of Pennsylvania when they had Semester at Sea. sses on board while going to another country. This was a semester trip and it was a blast. Some of the countries we visited were: China, Vietnam, India, Tanzania, Kenya, South Africa, Brazil, Venezuela, etc. Also taught a graduate course in Bangkok, Thailand. The places visited while giving a research paper or just thru travel are many. Love to travel! Was awarded Outstanding Professor in 2005, and plan to retire this summer. However, I will be teaching in a special program at McGeorge School of Law one day a week and continue teaching 1/2 time at the university fall semesters for up to five years (which is a sweet program for retirees). I have become an artist and love to paint. Have had four shows of my work so far. Will dive in once retired.
I have one son, Joshua, and we are very close. Stayed active thru exercise and have been a vegetarian for 44 years. Feeling great!
