Edmond's Story
The now photo was actually taken in 2001 on our boat after we crossed into Mexican waters at the beginning of a 5 month cruise in and around Baja.
As for how we wound up in Oak Harbor... in 1984 when the Olympics came to El Lay I was on staff at USC. We had a choice of either going through an intensive background check and working through the games or taking a paid vacation. We drove up to Seattle to visit inlaws. Didn't care much for Seattle much but loved the surrounding country side. Came back in '86 to look around some more and again in '89. During the '89 trip we found a 2 acre lot on Whidbey Island which at that time didn't cost an arm and a leg. It's about 15 minutes driving time from Oak Harbor and a good 2 hours and a ferry ride north of Seattle (didn't want to settle too near the inlaws either). We moved here permanently in '05, started clearing land and chopping wood in '06 and building our home in '08. I have a small combo wood shop where I make custom cabinets and furniture and machine shop where I make parts for my woodworking machinery.
After all that if you're won...Expand for more
dering what I did before we left El Lay... going back to '84, not long after we came back from our first trip north my research group at USC lost its funding and I went to work for Applied Research Labs where I eventually became the manager of software development. That was until the company was bought out and moved in '98. I politely turned down their offer to relocate to Madison, WI and struck out on my own. I eventually settled on woodworking after doing some restoration work on an old schooner.
Latest news...
I was admitted to the hospital on the first of August 2011 with severe stomach cramps. When the smoke cleared and all the test results were in the diagnosis was stage two 'B' cell lymphoma. I started chemo on the twenty-seventh of September and I have five more to go spaced three weeks apart. They pumped me full of steroids to get me past the first five days and I have my choice of three anti-nausea meds. They say I should pull through with no problem.

Although it may take as long as a year to recover from the effects of chemo I am cancer free...
