Edward's Story

Life Well, I used to be one of those students who didn't had a life back in the day like you see on TV. I wasn't really popular and I used to get teased alot. A typical teenager in an unfair and cruel world that we call, our "high school days." Even though I didn't find my high school sweethart or got the chance to join the football team I tried make the best of it by keeping myself active in what WHS had to offer. I played drums in the precussion section of our HS band, was active in the Key Club (well, sort of) and I enjoyed passing my time at the automotive shop. My junior-senior prom in my last year was my first and last prom I'll ever attend. That night was...memorable. Long story short, my date was a (beep!), better yet her BF who's a (beep!) was there. He didn't fare too good with his date either.(I'm sorry Pua, we should've traded dates! As why hard, yea?) At least I got a Mustang 5.0 convertible to cruise with! Whoo-hoo! I had some awsome friends to hang with...Tracy, Caps, Alex, Rice and Brandon and Jesse. The crew who used to hang by the bridge...Man, I know we had a couple more guys but I forgot their names. Geez, has it been 15 years since then? Good Lord! Now, we'll fast forward towards the present. Ahem, I'll try to keep it short and simple. A decade and a half From 1998 I've travelled and lived in Maui,Oahu the Big Island, Green Bay,WI, and Las Vegas, NV. Because of the events of 9/11 I've applied and joined the US Army in January 2002 and since then I've been to MO, GA, TX, TN, MN, VA, MD, DC, Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq. I served in Baghdad for 15 months during Operation Iraqi Freedom I and II and I was one of the FIRST soldiers from HAWAII to be in combat in Iraq BEFORE the 25th Infantry and the 100th fro...Expand for more
m the Hawaii National Guard were activated. They were trained for combat operations at Fort Polk, LA where I'm currently stationed at before they were deployed to the Middle East. I can't wait to see what happens next. Not a bad for a local boy from Eleele who used to get teased alot from your classmates, hah? Wanna tease me now? I didn't think so. Military Basic training was fun. Going through obstacles, getting the chance to fire different weapons (automatic rifle to a rocket laucher), blowing up stuff and learning the fundementals of leadership. It was a challenging experience to be in charge of a group under your command. The joys of winning, the agony of defeat and the emotion of losing the people you're responsible for. Even if it was just a training exercise you can feel the guilt and remorse of what would it be like if it was really real. Advance Individual Traing or AIT, was like going to college...with uniforms. Not like the plad skirts with the white button shirts. Nope, that wouldn't look good on me. Looks better on Brittney. I've met and made alot of good friends some of which I actually went to combat with. If I had the chance to go back I would in a minute. It was fun! My first duty station? Well, it felt like going to a new school...with uniforms...again. Suprisingly, it was like a 9 to 5 job. Wake up at 0615 go to Physical Training, finish at 0730, go take a shower & report in at 0900. Take a lunch break at 1130 to 1300 hours. (1pm) Go back to work & then you're done between 1630-1700. (4:30-5pm) How cool is that? Weekends off AND if a holiday lands on a Friday or a Monday you get a four-day weekend! Cool huh? Wanna join? Nah, no can 'cause you no can handle! Just like, eh?
