Edward's Story

I only attended QA for a year, Fall of 71 through Spring of 72. Others might remember me from Programs Related to St. Coletta School in Jefferson where we worked with Sr.M Sheila O.S.F. (Gone On to be with The Lord now these few years) While I was at QA I was freshman class president because nobody wanted the Job so it got handed to me. The Big accomplishment was that we raised 13 Bucks (or was it $9.75)at a bake sale. I played J V Football, Nowhere else would a skinny kid like I was have a chance to play organized Ball. After that last game, my freshman year, I never put on a football uniform again. I would miss that. I Graduated 1975 from Monona Grove. I joined the Army. I was invited to attend West Point...An Honor I declined. I became a Training NCO for The First Infantry Division. When My time was done I attended a Baptist College as a theology major. I worked on The Kill Floor at Oscar Mayer (Back when they had a Kill Floor, I worked On the Oil Fields in Oklahoma, I worked for years in Hospice Nursing, I've been a Baker, I write Novels, Last Christmas I was a Mall Santa in a shopping mall out in California. I was an odd kid. That's all you'll remember. If you even read this far. Different, Weird... There were only a couple of intrepid souls that were brave enough to call me friend. I'm not Weird guys, I am and was then a Traumatic Brain Injury Survivor. I had a sledding accident when I was eight, Feb, 1965. Brain Surgery was in it's toddler stage. I underwent a craniotomy. I lived. That was the good news. I Have from that day had dead gray matter. I was encouraged to ignore my disability. Nobody in those days knew anything about Rehab for a Brain Injury survivor anyway. It became my invisible Disability. I'm about 75% smarter than most of you, (Well Except for you Tom Anthony and of course Noei. (Remember when Noei sold his one book of raffle tickets and Fr. Heinrich drew his name out of the hat for the hundred dollar drawing, I can still hear him..."What Are The O...Expand for more
dds?! What are the Odds?!" Bill Paterson and I talked Noei into staying for the drawing. "Noei, Don't go! You might Win!" To this day I think Father Heinrich palmed Noei's name...) Well like I was saying I am about 75% really with it and 25% dumb as a bucket of Rocks. That's life for me. Now a days they spend billions of Federal Dollars teaching brain injured people how to work around dead gray matter. In that day, If I could go back to school that is where I went. If I could not I may have been bound for Central Colony. I was 45 years old before I looked back at the patterns of choices in my past and saw my disability face to face. I was an odd kid. I am an odd man. I don't have friends. But at least now I know why. If any one of you would have taken the knock in the head that I took,.. Well I'm glad for you it didn't happen that way. I live in North Dakota now after many years in New England and I have Never seen the hill without Queen Of Apostles still standing with the Scheanstatt chapel there next to it. My memories are in tact that way. I used to help my Dad make the Coffee for the Roast beef dinners even before I attended there. I had older brothers that went there as well.... Odd People write good books. Have you read Stephen King? he Qualifies. So if you ever see, Beyond The Old Oak Doors, The Johnston Station Stories, The Angel who Rode Grayhound, Return to Camp Marlyn, The Teen Angel Diaries, The leaves that wouldn't Fall, or In the Shadows of Freedom, on the New York Times Best seller list (Don't Hold Your Breath) You can say , "Ya, That guy went to Queen of Apostles!"..."He was Weird." and I won't mind. I'm used to it by now. Well, I do wish for you all good and wonderful things, Donny, Meg, Cristy, Peggy, Tom, Mike, Murph, Pat, Terry, Greg Z, Brother Timothy, Steve, Brian, and the rest of you guys. To Greg B, "MayFest Lives". Be well happy and Loved Everybody. ~~~~~~ Edward F Imhoff Matchlessoul at yahoo dot com (3w dot myspace dot com/fideles
