Edward's Story
Hi You All,
Where to start? I'm Gay, probably some of you who hadn't heard aren't too surprised. I graduated from OSU with a BS in Social Work.
I worked for about 15 years in that field mainly as an Alcoholism Counselor. I was a member of the first Board of the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Alcoholism Counselors. Finally I got very burnt out trying to tell other folks how to live there lives. I quit, did odd jobs for awhile and finally drifted into retail. I've worked for Half Price Books for the last 20 years, except for a couple that I was off on disabiliity. I have HIV Disease (AIDs). I tested postive about '81. I stayed basically healthy for over 10 years, that was an unusally long time back then. Finally I did get very sick, eventually was a Hospice patienrt for a few months. They decided I wasn't going to die in the near future and discharged me. Again something that rarely happens. I lived due to new medications available and the loving care and fierce determination of my mother. That...Expand for more
's all an amazing story.
I'm basically healthy now, except for the thing typical of getting older, but I expect you know all about those. I started weaving about 5 years ago. It's became my vocation, the bookstore just pays the mortgage and buys my meds.
I live in a small house in SE Columbus, the slums of German Village. The house is full of books, looms, yarn and clutter, where does it all come from? I share the house with two spoiled dogs, both rescues. Sugar is a sweet mutt with a killer hunter instinct. Clee is a Walker Hound, and when it comes to being smart, he's real good looking.
I met Clee and adopted him the day before I was going to see a Welsh Corgy. I had the choose between the breed the Queen of England raises and the coon dogs my dad hunted. My white trash roots won out. That about sums up the last 40 years for me. I hope the Class of '69 gets together this summer and I see some of you.
Words from a Joan Beaz song that come to mind. "Life is a thump ripe melon, so sweet and such a mess.
