Edward's Story

Life I got a B.A. from Penn State in Soviet Studies in 1973, was in Army ROTC and commissioned as a 2LT. I immedidately went active duty and served 5 years in Germany as an Army intelligence officer working for NSA from 1973-78. Married an enlisted woman in 1977, we are still married after 30 years! Then moved to Canada, lived in Ottawa 1978-87, I started a software company with 2 guys that eventually went public on NASDAQ. Moved to Boston area in 1987, sold the software company in 1999. Today I am a mobile computer doctor providing computer support to families and small businesses. Have 2 sons now 19 and 21, both Eagle Scouts, going to college. I remain active in Scouting. I have been to the famous Philmont Scout Ranch 4 times with my sons on 80+ mile expeditions, in fact I just returned from the 4th trip. I went to the Bowie class reunion in 1999, it was great seeing so many classmates. Looking forward to another one, 2009?? School No one I have met in my life ever experienced the hell we all went through in Mr. Smouse's biology class in 10th grade, with the leaf and bug collections, and those 3 hour homework sessions drawing every cell we saw under ...Expand for more
the microscope. What the HELL was that all about anyway???? Workplace 5 years active duty as an Army officer. 4 years working for Nortel (Canadian Bell Tel.) on virtual machines. 5 years as VP and President of my own software company in Canada. 7 years as VP of same company's US division in Boston area. 5 years customer support manager for Internet company in Boston area. I have lived the Dilbert experience believe me. Last 7 years I have been an independent IT consultant doing "Geek Squad" type SOHO / SMB work in Boston area and loving it. Military ROTC 3 year scholarship; commissioned as 2LT. Active duty in Germany near Munich for 4 1/2 years working for NSA on IBM mainframe computers. Made Captain in 1977, married an enlisted woman which was "OK" back then but not tolerated in today's Army, she was a photographer. Our honeymoon was a Huey helicopter ride from Munich area all the way up to the Danish border so my wife could take some photographs of one of our outposts, what a hoot that was, the pilots flew sideways through the trees, I am not kidding. We did a Eurailpass trip from Spain to the Arctic Circle the last month before returning to the US.

Wachusett Dam May 13 one of the two days a year the dam walkway is open for 3 hours (normally closed since 9/11 unfortunately)
The Eibsee again...in Garmisch Partenkirchen, on the German Austrian border, at the foot of Germany's highest mountain...the best years of our lives....what a natural paradise.
Baroque splendor to rival the finest churches in Europe. This was Ottobeuren Abby, out in the middle of NOWHERE near our base in Augsburg. The most ornate church I have ever seen, incredible. Visually stunning, photographs
From our honeymoon helicopter trip to the Danish border, here we are doing a "hot refueling" in Fulda about 1/2 way up with the main and tail rotors in action.
Chris marching with the Augsburg team in revolutionary-period uniforms on the famous International Nimejgen 100 mile VolksMarsch.
The Nuremburg Christkindlmarkt....a wonderful Christmas "shopping fair" from Thanksgiving until Xmas Eve. They sold candy, cookies, spices, ornaments, etc.
Same lake, young Ed, with his Canon camera made from old cannons based on how heavy it was !!!
Young Chris on a walk near another favorite lake out in the country.
The married couple get an apartment, in the Styx. WAY out of town, wow! This was our apartment, on the first floor, Bergweg 4, Schoenleiten D-8814, about 16 kilometers from the base. No one sprechen-sie'd Englisch this far
The BOQ, also known as the officers quarters. I lived at the far end, right in the front. The old German luftwaffe base where the enlisted people lived is in the distance, with the red striped roof. For some reason they bui
Geez, 1976 maybe? Where was this?
"Mike, take the choppers back to Division, and get my Yader Spool and 86." Here's our honeymoon helicopter trip to the Danish border, we have arrived up there!!
Chris looking very cute....!
"We're comin' in low out of the rising sun, and about a mile out, we'll put on the music!!" "Music?!" "Yeah, I play Wagner, it scares the hell out of the slopes, my boys love it!" ..... yes I am in Huey chopper on my way up
The Eibsee.....the most beautiful lake I've ever seen? What memories...more time spent there than anywhere else in Germany I think.
My life from 1974 to 1978, Field Station Augsburg. That's an antenna called an AN/FLR-9, the local nickname was "the elephant cage." The buildings in the foreground had no windows, I worked on the second floor of that rais
