Edward's Story
Just made contact with Jack Ward and Dan Swisher - all the MCDS guards in my past. In my 53rd year of teaching, 7th here in the Philippines. Raised 4 kids after a divorce, stayed single 30 years. Remarried here in the Philippines, a teacher who now lives five hours away getting a law degree. Visits me and our 11 year old on weekends. Taught downtown LA for 20 years before coming here and loved it - great kids and families - not all legal! Came here to supervise a dormitory for Brent School in Laguna. Married and moved to Subic, the old Naval base, to head the English department and coach track (sound familiar?) at Brent Subic. Love it here - monkeys on the road, jungle decor, safe streets, beautiful jungle birds, sound Seabee-built housing, nice peopl...Expand for more
e, nice international kids, and beautiful women! Two unhappy incidents two Christmases in a row. Chased by wild dogs in the province while running last year, tripped and fell, not bitten but had a year-long back spasm problem. Just got well, slipped on a wet stair case landed on my back and broke two small bones. Never missed school or track practice, but still taking more pills than usual!
Wrote a book called "Troubled Troublemakers," picture of me on cover wearing MCDS sweatshirt from eighth grade, used to wear it for warmup at my master's track events (won Nationals in the steeple when I was 58). Shirt is now retired. Made the mistake of washing it too often - falling apart! Loved MCDS but also impressed by what USM has done, i n spite of the name!
