Edwin Collins:

CLASS OF 1977
Cross river, NY

Edwin's Story

Reminiscing the other day to a young lad(30) --what a great senior prom we had in '77. We were 18 excited to get out of JJHS and we could DRINK legally. Not that I over indulged too much then--I quess I've always been a bit of a late starter. In fact I had so much fun at our senior prom, that I decided to do it all again the next year and go the JJHS Junior prom--which I missed when I was a Junior. Had fun...but realized I just didn't belong..it was time to move on. Last winter took a spin up to the old homestead in Katonah. The farm across the street from our old house is now owned by Martha. Who knows Martha may own our house too? All the buildings are now decidedly very unfarm-like. They all are very tidy and all painted a pale yellow and not a smudge of dirt or manure on them. But I have to hand it to Martha because she has two pretty cool looking green houses easily seen from the road. So if you are driving on Girdle Ridge Rd--check it out. Recently turned 50 --like probably most of you. I remember in high school thinking people who were 50 geeesh they are ancient--well here we are....I know 50 is the new 30....blah..blah..blah tell that to my bones, joints and waistline. To put things in perspective--the other day I was talking to a young woman at work about a Phil Collins song which topped the charts in 1983. She looked at me with a blank st...Expand for more
are and said she never heard of the song. I thought it really strange because when it came out it was played on the radio constantly. It was only bit later feeling a bit sick at the thought, that of course she hadn't heard the song, because she wasn't born until 1984. Geezzz I felt like Charlie Brown failing to kick the football once again...lying on the ground, "Good grief!!" The best prank no doubt in High School was the painting of the math room purple. It was classic and in such good taste. No one was hurt or bothered by it other than the administration for allowing such an act of hooliganism to occur on their watch. Once it was discovered everyone knew about it. Does anyone know who painted the purple room?? Although it has not been very hot this summer--the other day thinking about skating on the Cross River Reservoir. That was a lot of fun. You could skate a half mile down the arm of the reservoir near the entrance to Pound Ridge Reservation. A half mile was good for me--others that were better skaters could skate clear across the reservoir where it was deeper and the ice always thinner. Just the freedom of that gliding on the ice was great. Oh yes, there was ice hockey too---I was always a defenseman; since I was not a very good skater. If I caught up to an opposing player it was like football on ice with a stick--we would both go down.
