Eileen's Story
Life
I have been married for 33 years this past month. I met a fellow after 5 years of divorce from Kenny in Sioux City Iowa. Kenny R by the way has passed away. He suffered from Agent Orange ever since he got back from Viet Nam. Long time, but he was never right. Took him years to really get sick and pass on but it was a rough life for him. I divorced him 8 years after marriage. His disease (at that time did not know) really had him do some strange things. I feared for myself and my children. Kenny fathered 3 children ..1 set of twins,
Anyway, meeting Bruce Donahue was a great thing. He has been the best husband in the world and still is. He & I get along wonderfully. Bruce adopted the children in 1976 I have three children all grown now, but live near by except for one she lives in Charlotte, NC
Toni and my twins (Dee & Mary) have all done very well for themselves. I have three grandchildren 16,15,14. They are the delight of my heart. I have also been blessed recently with great grand children, two boys 3 &4
We live near Chicago about (10 miles) & enjoy all that wonderful city has to offer ....the train station is not far from here so its great to hop on and go to see the sites. Of course there is no city like New York City. I miss being home from time to time. I visited Highland Falls during the funeral of my parents back in 85...Life was good there now when I look back..Gotta go I will write later.
My hobbies are singing mostly. I sing with an organization called "Sweet Adeline's International" We perform, compete, and sing-out for many people who contract us. Our annual show is in October. I have made many great relationships along the way. Wherever I have lived I have always been connected to a singing group of some sort. I guess you may say its my passion.
I also love to sew. My mother was a great seamstress, and if you remember she made all my clothes. Coats included...I am not that kind of a seamstress. I just create things.
I am living with a disorder. A neurological disorder that actually originated from the brain.. I have come to grips with it so I don't mind talking about it. Its called spasmodic torticollis, Dystonia is another name. Its a painful mess that affects my neck, shoulders, arms and here recently a awlful tremor to the head. Now that I am updating the tremor has gotten worse, however I still go ab...Expand for more
out my day the best I can.
I take meds to keep it at bay....and shots every three months in my muscles. If your interested please read about it. It's a rare disorder so we need to spread the word. It was discovered 7 years ago. It keeps me down on some days. Other days I do well and take advantage of a great day. I still get around just fine and if I am having a lousy day I just sleep...Just type in Dystonia on YouTube and you will see various forms of it..
We had our own business for many years "Donahue's Personal Care Homes" we housed and took care of elderly and mentally challenged persons. I really took on a lot at the time, however did not realize it until I looked and noticed how tired I was all the time!!!. Bruce of course helped me, but it was my passion to help people no one else wanted to be bother with. These people we took care of did have families...all of them, but the families were not willing to take responsibility for them. As I think back some days I ask myself, "What the heck was I doing"? We had 3 large homes and a converted apartment building. All were state certified. We had a small staff in each home. My children all work for several years
.
Our life consists of one more very important aspect. Our faith! We are strong in our faith and we are great full for all God has provided for us. We go to a non-denominational church consisted of over 1,000 people. We love it and have learned a lot not only about God, but about relationships with one another. Both hubby and I are both active participants.
If you ask me the secret of my success in this world I guess I would have to say its my faith. It has been my solid rock, & saving grace. Without the Lord in our lives we could not do anything.
School
My biggest crush was on a fellow that is not with us anymore. He died in Highland Falls a few years back. He did not like me and that was that!! I was sad to hear of his death.
My school memories ....I loved hanging at the "Sugar Shack" and the pool hang out at the bottom of mountain ave. called the "Fireside Inn" In addition I liked going to the band box and dance on Friday nights.
Of course, I can't forget the Pickwick and all that went on there. It was all good!
My first kiss was in the Library..The Nancy Drew books and me kissing...No I am not telling with whom that was with but you all know him..Ha Ha...
