Eileen's Story

Life Let's see, where do I begin. I have a twin brother, Eric, who is actually 4 minutes older than me. We were born in Birmingham, AL, raised in Athens, GA, and are the oldest of 5 kids. I can't say we were vary close growing up, but have become so as adults. I was raised in a Christian home, and grew up knowing of God. However, I was 21 before I chose a personal relationship with Jesus for myself. It was decision I tossed around for a while, but came to the conclusion that I could not deny who He was. So one day, I told Him I wanted to know Him for who He said was in the Bible and asked Him to make Himself real to me, and we've been walking it out ever since! As far as my education, I grew up going to public schools; after high school, I got my Bachelor's of Business Administration in Accounting at the University of GA. It was a great experience, but I really don't like Accounting. I don't regret getting an Accounting degree because it has helped me get where I am today, but Accounting is not my thing. A couple of years ago, I tried an evening MBA program, and found it was too much. So, I'm putting that on hold for right now. After I graduated from UGA, I moved to Jackson, TN where my parents had moved. I thought it would be smart to move in with the folks and save money. Well, word of advise - don't do that. At least not in Jackson. I was pretty miserable in Jackson, so after 18 months, I moved to Nashville. I like Nashville. Its a pretty town, easty to get around, a good size, lots of good music, and I made some really good friends there. I had worked in the Mortgage industry in Jackson, and decided to transition that career path to Nashville with a start up company. After 4 months, I lost my job, so I started volunteering my time at an inner-city ministry while job hunting. I ended up working full-time a...Expand for more
t the ministry for the next 12 months until I burnt out. I temped for a couple of months and ended up with a permanent position at UnitedHealthcare as a Financial Analyst for the next four years. It was a really good fit, but also very stressful. When my position was terminated in February of this year, I applied to the Peace Corps. In April, I got a call from UnitedHealthcare in Chicago offering me a position in their Schaumburg office. I couldn't accept a permanent position because I had been accepted in the Corps, but did accept a contract position until I leave for my assignment. So, I rented out my townhouse, sold about 75% of my possessions, and move to the big city! The Windy City that is. I am here until the end of January and am tentatively scheduled to leave for the Peace Corps in February. Perfect timing, since that is the coldest part of the year up here. I have to admit, I love being from the south and living up here has confirmed that I don't care for the cold! : ) Although I am enjoying myself emmensely. I was hoping to run the Chicago marathon (or half marathon) while I was up here, but couldn't get my act together! Running was a hobby I picked up in Jackson, and really enjoy it. I've run 2 marathons and 4 half marathons (which are my favorite), but I prefer to run with someone rather than alone. It makes the time go by some much faster, and is a great bonding time! I highly recommend it. I love to travel too, and signing up for various races gives me a good excuse! So, that's it. I guess you probably want to know if I've ever been married. No - not yet. But still hopeful. I'm a very active person, and generally happy and outging. I've been very blessed to have alot of awesome friends and a great fam. And I hope to have a family of my own one day, but until then - I'm going to enjoy my mobility!
