Elaine's Story
High school seems like eons away. After graduating, I started Samford Univeristy the next day. I met my husband my senior year, and we got married in March, 1970. My degree is in journalism, and I worked as a reporter for the Birmingham Post-Herald until our first daughter was born in June, 1972. I stayed home with her, doing freelance writing from home, until she started school. Then, I worked as a features writer for Birmingham Magazine for two years, and went back to the Post-Herald. I worked on the copy desk, then became food editor and features writer. I "retired" in 1982 when our second daughter was born. I continued to do freelance writing, with articles published in local, regional and national publications. My first book, "Myths, Mysteries & ...Expand for more
Legends of Alabama," was published in the fall of 1995. My husband died in March of 1996, and my freelancing gradually tapered off as I took over his drug store. (He was a pharmacist). I moved from Homewood in 2001 and now live in a log house in the woods in St. Clair County. Since moving here, I've had a second book published, a biography entitled "Unforgettable Nat King Cole." I sold my drug store in 2012, and now write for two local magazines: Discover St. Clair and LakeLife 24/7. I travel a good bit, including mission trips to Peru and Guatemala. I have two grandsons:, Gabriel, born Jan. 5, 2007, on his late grandfather's birthday, and Matias, born March 14, 2012. I have two horses and love to ride. I also have a llama and two miniature donkeys.
