Elaine's Story
I am currently living in Vienna, Austria and working at a Montessori school near the UN. In my spare time, I read, bike, walk around Vienna, take photos, surf the Internet, play guitar, and visit the thermal spas in Austria. I have one son, who lives in Battleground, Washington - he is married and has a daughter who is almost 17! I haven't been back to Orange County since in the early 80s. My 2 sisters and my mother moved to Westtown, and later my sisters and brother (Robert Reid, class of 68?) moved to the Bay Area in California. My mom is in an assisted living facility and suffers from vascular dementia. I have lots of mostly fond memories of Port Jervis. as 4-H with horses as the extra H. We were right on the Neversink River so I spent a lot of time swimming and hanging out there. We were right across the river from the Latini family. I remember riding the oh-so-slow bus - every morning I was late for the bus and ran down the road to try to catch it. I was active in the Presbyterian church with Rev. Avery and sang in the choir with Donald Marsh. The library was my favorite place to hang out. When we had choir practice, I would go to the library after school and then head over to Homers for a burger. After high school, I headed straight to S.U.N.Y. Bringhamton, known as Harpur College and majored in English literature and graduated with absolutely zero job skills! Ah, the joys of the liberal arts education.
